I own and run the countrys largest Heritage Railway forum called

I am 26 and am a technical manager at an internet hosting company!

Cheers!

i'm retired, man of leisure these days. what am saying is its hardly an industry.

"Industry (from Latin industrius, "diligent, industrious"), is the segment of economy concerned with the production of goods "

if yer want chapter and verse on my various jobs and occupations just say and i'll write yer out a list

Production of goods?

So producing custom code and office systems. And designing specialist software for customers is not?

Industry is not something what you can only touch.

Anyway whats so bad with the Freelanders?

I can't afford anything else and need something to tow a small horse box?

Freelanders, especially the 1.8 petrol have suffered badly with engine issues, particulary 'head gaskets' . . . PLEASE, before you part with your heard earned £'s make sure it is ok, and check on any warranty, or you WILL have to get it done sooner or later, and it's expensive (unless you're a DIY mechanic)

Have a browse through the freelander bit - yu should see enuf to make your hair stand on end.

The coment about " I can't afford anything else", I find interesting - have yu considered running and repair costs in your statement? Mine cost me £6700 in 13months in repair bills alone. Is that cheap?

We have got a car at the moment, Bought it off ebay, It had no oil in it and had been running for about 6 months like it (I have no idea how!)

We're doing a PX because I am not sure on how long it'll stay running.
(And we been offered more that what we payed).

One thing i have learnt througn working with the internet. is that people only usually say things on forum and the like when things go bad.

It gets very concentrated with bad reports that the things that are ok and go on for years with no problems get put aside.

Yes they may have various well documented problems but has every single one had something wrong?

It would be unfair to LR to say 'every single freelander' is cr*p, but . . . there is an awful lot of critisium on the petrol ones . . . on the other end of the scale, the diesels, especially the TD4 are very good, it's a BMW engine that's why . . (a colleauge of mine at work has a 04 reg TD4, it has clocked over 70k now without a glitch.

They are not in the same league as a defender or discovery when off road, but they are quite capable, and do what they were designed to do. It just seems the marque has been tarred a lot by the petrol 1.8i (sorry if that is the one your looking at) but what is . . I'm afraid certainly seems to be in this case !!

Yeah the one i will be getting is a 1.8i Petrol. done 40k with LR service everytime. And it's had one owner since new.

 In the past 2 weeks my local village garage has 2 Freelanders in both 1.8 petrols and both for head gasket. Also on ebay the other week a one was for sale for spares or repair due to the third engine that had been fitted blowing a head gasket. So make your own mind up.

I think you mite have cracked it, Steve.

It must this peculiar new metal "critisium" that they are using - it must cause them to fail at irregular but frequent intervals.

Yep, it's actually quite rare, it come from a deep mine in Solihul thats why LR was the only ones to use it for the Gaylander injuns . . . . oh apart from the Lada's an Neesans . . . fink they had some as well :D
