Well ive transfered my stuff from my connect to the Disco ready to use that tomorrow. Have Vans to collect, tow, move etc as well as 15 to get out on the road. Hmmmmm could be interesting lol

Just Tucked the wifes mini cooper away got the disco all ready and fuel she ready to rock and roll i do hope we get lots of snow as i wont be going to work for sure ..wanna go play as well lol

Think I may be selling my defender soon as I need some money in the near future and I got a lot tied up in what is essentially a toy... but I shall be getting something else, it will be a green laner/minor expedition vehicle as I don't really do many P'n'P's anyway, not decided what yet but my current top choices are:

Disco2 4.0 V8 - noticed these have dropped below £2000 now and it would be nice to have the comfort of the Disco2, the lack of rust (as long as chassis is OK) and V8 power!!!

Shogun 2.8TDi SWB - Really like shoguns and the spec is great, rear locker as standard, all guards/shields, mounting point for winches already in place, water tight! Only let down by front drive shafts and lack of parts available, I do have one major advantage which is a Mitsu trained 4x4 specialist working for me who knows these inside and out

Some sort of old series - prices are a lot lower but they are old, weak axles, weak engines e.t.c. and windy, damp old beasts

I can help but think a Shogun would be the best budget 4x4, OK the front suspension doesn't get the articulation but the rear does and its got a locker anyway plus they drive better on road, are infinitely more reliable and look the part as well, that said a Disco is no slouch, easy to maintain and a Disco2 has some nice comforts plus V8 POWER!!!

Sorry to hear you having to sell Jon, if I had the money I'd snap that up!
I was looking at Disco II V8's as a green laner/tow vehicle there are very nice to drive if you get the ACE and rear air suspension, until it goes wrong of course. Also the rear overhang is longer than a Disco 1.
Shogun's certainly seem to be a very tempting option. I've always loved the Hi-Lux Surf, but they are a big old bus!

Bit fed up mine still isnt on the road :( Well technically i could drive it but i dont know how long the rear diff has left :D

I've stopped advertising my old disco for spares due to lack of time.

If your happy to collect and possibly assist with removal then I might be able to help, I've still got both diff's on my disco. Back one needs a pinion seal otherwise its good. Front one is fine.

Cheers but i have a replacement axle to go on its just doing it :(

Hope everyone has been well not been about lately due to having to sort out loads of family stuff, John sad to see your having to sell the old girl but as you say means must, have thought about selling mine a few times as she has just sat there since November, but little man would never forgive me,need to bleed the clutch but can't be arsed, will catch up with everyone soon.

Im gutted to sell it but its too much money sitting there when I need it, my toys are my bank savings so got to be done, I wont be without for long tho, got my eye on something like this next:

For under £2.5K I should be able to get a good, late 90's 2.8TDi short wheel base, 33" tyres and a winch, will have to fabricate a winch tray and sliders but the rest is there from standard and also has a rear diff locker as standard which is handy. They aren't as easy to work on but luckily I have got a guy who used them for 3 years working on a farm in the outback who then get trained by mitsi as a specialist working for me, thats handy ;):D

Guess I will have to go join paul in the non land rover club now :D

Sorry to hear your selling up but sound's like it needs to be done. The shogun sounds a good option. I've been thinking the same thing every morning getting into a f**king cold motor but can't see myself doing it.
I can't see myself in a "normal motor" ever again.

How much for the fender, and i know of a long wheel base shogun diesel that will be cheap.

I have got it at £4950 at the moment as not in too much of a rush. I will have enough to spend about £2500 on another off roader, the shogun doesn't have the articulation you get with land rovers but they drive better which would be nice, want a swb as they come with diff lock and are quite small so good for having fun in. Bits are few and far between so a bit of fabrication could be in order, could be fun

hi all. am picking up my new land rover on the 25th jan and am looking for some good places to go out in it round the herts essex area. am looking forward to getting stuck in

Fook all snow here.
I was going to go and have a play tonight, what's it like in Braintree? Colchester? Anywhere in Essex worth travelling to tonight?
