It works in conjunction with the muffler bearing to help cushion the backlash against the piston return springs of course!:D
Just woke up and Christ your looking good 'Enery, the extra weight suits you.;):D Seeing that @Biglad2222 hasn't posted the offending photo its safe to say that what he was initially asking about was a small inline filter in a pipe that goes to the non-existent part that was never fitted to a p38. Hope that clears things up. To avoid confusion please don't ask questions by pm's,these will not be answered in the future, use the open forum;)

Perhaps you would like to tell us exactly what a ERG boost valve is and it's function?

EGR? What would be the point of that?

As far as I can make out from this thread, someone was trying to get more performance from their P38 using an aftermarket kit to enhance the effect of the turbo. You have confirmed no electronic control was ever fitted to the P38. There's not even EGR on mine. The question then becomes is there a kit out there that could be fitted to give you a bit of extra boost when need it (button on the dash maybe).

Why they'd bother isn't for me to judge. I wouldn't fit a power box but people do and some have had no issues.

P38 diesel running well is more than a capable car. You can get 175 BHP and 228 ft of torque fitting chip to the ECU. They then become virtual flying machines. Even thinking about do major mods when you don't have a bloody clue mechanically what you are doing is tear time.:(:D

How did I miss this one and how did we get so confused! :D:p:D

If it’s what I think he means has blue pipe going to it? Better off leaving it broke or disarm it on purpose.
Don't even think about trying to justify the existence of your bastardised P38 on those metalic springy things. The only thing with a blue pipe is something you don't have.:p:D:D

Couldn't agree more but some people think otherwise.

why do people go for EGR deletes the EGR was removed from mine by previous owner 2000 2.5td
my neighbour has a 1996 2.5td and has EGR I don't think there's a lot of difference between them performance wise

Didn't think EGR came in until 1997?

It was an emissions thing. People block it up because otherwise it gets gummed up. I don't think it affects performance much.

There are few post EGR parts I will use if mine fail. Sticking an MAF or Adblue on my engine won’t make it use 80mpg all of a sudden lol but some things are tweaked. Think the injectors have marginally higher crack pressure for example yet later injectors are same price.
