Sweden with Volvo was the first country to have DRL's. After 10 years an experiment was carried out which showed that a car without DRL's was noticed more than one with. You are right that the unit had over wound and seized but the spiral has not come out of the nut, however the motor is not burnt out, the gearbox is fecked. The emergency release mechanism was not effective.
The owner is well off, the vehicle was always serviced by the JLR dealer, this sort of sh1t happens due to bad design.
