Why keep simplicity when you can replace with something heavier, more complex and less reliable and more costly

EPB's are exactly that - A revenue generating solution to a problem that does not exist.

EPBs are in the same category as DMFs, Tyre pressure sensors, Proximity brakes and Auto parallel parking systems. Not needed and a pain in the arse when they fail.

+1 - but you forgot DRL's ;) - IMHO, If "one" needs other cars to have lights on all the time so "one" can see them - then I really don't think "one" should be driving.

And I say this as someone who has 3 eye operations, with a fourth planned, and I can see other cars much better without bl**dy DRL's

Agree.

Although DRL is switched on in the 322.

But I wouldn’t go out on the bike without my lights on :) regardless.

I agree 100% - Bikes are simply not seen by 99% of folk, including pedestrians

I think it would be a good idea to make everyone who can physically do it, spend some time on a bike on the road as I suspect this would increase rider safety by a very significant margin.

Sweden with Volvo was the first country to have DRL's. After 10 years an experiment was carried out which showed that a car without DRL's was noticed more than one with. The Brain accepts the normal and tends to disregard it responding more to the unusual

Drl`s are too bright as Data said they distract you to them and away from the other cars,
and how many cars fitted with them do you see driving at night without lights on because the driver can see ok his lights are on but no tail lights
on
i have a friend who is a vosa inspector and we stopped a taxi and the who insisted he didn't speak English was adamant his lights were on:rolleyes:
he also had a brake light out and was lucky he wasn't marched down the road to plod with his attitude.

Had a little play with the EPB today, the drive gearbox has lunched itself, presumably that is why the thing is jammed solid, will have to take it apart and see which bit has actually failed.

Be interested to see pics when you do please.

My brother-in-law had all sorts of issues with the EPB on his VW Passat. This was much simpler than the LR system, because there's no cables, and the motors are mounted on the back of the calipers. Turned out the seals had perished, and the motor & gearing was full of water so kept getting stuck on or off.

Temp fix was to unplug wires & wind back the pistons until replacements arrived, so he parked in gear for two days !! New aftermarket units from eBay at £19 each fixed the problem. Sadly I could not find any "EPB to Cable conversion Kits" !!

But I do have the correct calibration procedure if anyone needs it !!

Probably the cause for the box was that the brake shoes were not ajusted and the motor was overwinding and seizing at the end of the shaft and the motor was trying to relaese but the spiral had come out of the nut and burnt the motor out..

You are right that the unit had over wound and seized but the spiral has not come out of the nut, however the motor is not burnt out, the gearbox is fecked. The emergency release mechanism was not effective.
There appears to be no sensor to prevent over winding, so IMO that is a major design fault.
I suspect the problem arose due to worn brake shoes.

If people do not maintain their vehicles shit happens.

The owner is well off, the vehicle was always serviced by the JLR dealer, this sort of **** happens due to bad design.

Bad design or bad maintenance. Bad design causes problems, but bad maintenance causes more. Bad design has to be serviced more often to prevent problems.
