Engine warning light

Hi, can any one help?
I have a 2009 defender 90 and when the engine is starts it drive ok for about quarter of a mile but then the engine warning light comes on and there is a loss of power. I restart the engine and it drives ok but the light stays on for about 6 hours and then goes off.
Any suggestions ?

Take it to the garage and when they say ''Whats your name?'' say engine warning light.
