Hi
i am a new user and have a problem with my 2009 Discovery 3.
When towing a horse trailer after approx. 10 miles I would get a 'engine system failure' warning light and then lose power. Now its doing it all the time when not towing. Have brought it to a main dealer for diagnostics but they cannot find anything wrong with it. Advised to get a new fuel filter which I did but that has made no difference.
Anybody else had this issue? Or can shed some light on what it might be? Thanks

As long as you get that warning there must be one of the fault codes shown in the DTC index stored in the ECU memory which should point you in the right direction, unfortunately main dealers dont care about 10 years old vehicles nor have the knowledge to diagnose them properly these days. The engine's diagnostic protocol is built as to show you a warning based on a fault code so it's hard to believe that there is no code there or if that's the case then the ECU is missbehaving

btw, what engine ?

Hi

I find when there’s a yellow amber fault there no codes but only on the red ones , seems strange but do agree when. there’s a display it should show a fault code but doesn’t

Ur spot on ref dealers , not bothered about older landies , had that from a personal point of view when I asked for some work to be done

Hi

It could be several things, check

Map sensor is clean
Turbo actuator isn’t sticking
Can u hear a whilstle around 2,-2, 500 revs

Indeed what engine please, it is the TDV6 2.7

Have the egrs been blanked

I ended up buying my own diagnostics, by gap iid , which has been invaluable

Plenty here to help so don’t pull ur hair out, lol

Hi... I had a similar issues with my 2008 D3 (albeit not when towing). Would normally happen when speed increased above 50mph and basically I had to stop, turn off the engine and then restart to clear the issue. It ended up being the EGR valves and once they were sorted the problem stopped.

Like you've experienced, the main dealer wasn't really interested in finding the fault or couldn't be bothered to work it out via the diagnostics... ended up getting a local guy who knew LRs to figure out the issue.

Hope that helps and you get it sorted.
