engine removal 200tdi

Well I spend most the day, removing the last few bits from the rear chassis
With everything stripped it easy to seethe amount of surface rust on the chassis which I have
found out today was replaced in 2003/04

Whilst im at this stage im thinking it would be best to completly strip it engine out
get the chassis shot blasted and galvanised

my only fear is the removal of the engine, having never done it and not having a hoist

And how best to store the engine until the chassis is done

is it easy to do ?

i just invested in an engine hoist to rebuild my 90 and found it invaluable seeing that i am doing it alone, i used it to lift the bulkhead and rear tub as well as move things around my garage, i sat my tdi on the sump and its quite stable. you could also put it on a pallet and strap it down to the pallet

Beg or borrow an engine crane

Buy a hoist. It's an easy job to do. I managed mine on my own. Both in and out.

I sat mine on the sump and it's not going anywhere. Just covered it with a tarp until I was ready to put it back in. Probably 2 months (ish)

called a hire place today and they want £40 for the easer weekend , but it will be needed again
to refit.

the good thing is everthing has been stripped off so its just the chasis and front axel remaining
oh and the engine

you can buy one for about £150, hire it twice and your more than half way to buying one that you will most likely use in the future owning a land rover

An engine crane will be one of the most useful things you ever buy.

Hoist is a very good investment, lost count the number of times i've used it. Even if you buy a second hand one you'll loose very little money if you come to sell it again...

When you take the engine out, it can be sat in a tyre, which makes it a bit more stable when on a pallet.

I bought a mobile folding engine crane off ebay for £110. (brand new). its great to have access to your own as it could be handy for other things and also when things go you are not rushing to return it.
