Did a cylinder pressure test on my 1990 H reg 3.5 V8 twin carb today and te results are as follows.

A little picture if it makes any sence??? The "O" are engine cylinders (Very tiny ones:rolleyes: )

Bulkhead

147 O O 145

145 O O 145

145 O O 147

145 O O 144

All reading are in psi and were taken after the engine had been running for a good 10 minutes or so and the electric fans had kicked in.

Now I know all the readings are fairly consistant but is it consistantly low/high/just right:confused: ?? What are the to and from ranges on these engines i.e worn out to brand new?

Should I start crying or be very happy that a 16 year old car has these readings???

normal road cars would expect to see a pressure of approx 17 to 20 times the compression ratio of the engine.

therefore a figure of 126 to 160 psi for an 8/1 comp engine.
and 153 to 180 for a 9/1 comp engine.

anything below approx 100 psi would be worrying.
looks like you have an excellent engine there?

hope this helps you.

ps.
some of the racing/rallying v8 engines had a compression ratio of 12.5/1
with a trick cam, they would get pressures of 300psi !!!

now you know why they required 24v starters!

Thanks for that. I bought it off a bloke who thought the headgasket had gone because it was loosing water. When I got it home I replaced the leaking radiator, patched up bottom hose and a hose that goes from the block to the bulkhead for the cabin heater that had had a hose pipe pushed down the middle of it to stop it leaking:eek: . Needless to say the hose had shriveled up and blocked the pipe alltogether. Just finished a major service on it myself changing all fluids and basicaly anything that I could undo and put a new one on. Just needs a good krypton tune now and I should be away:D .
