I was originally planning to use the duck egg blue for the engine paint colour which I thought was the right colour. However, having got the head off now to have a closer look, it appears that the block and the head currently have a sand / limestone paint on them (which you can just about make out on the photo). Is there a chance this was the original colour (1973 civilian series 3) or would the engine be originally in the blue?

Any other shots of the engine? What e the first three digits of the serial number?
Engine serial number starts 90127, one more photo below which i think just about shows block is the same colour as the head.
Hope that helps. i appreciate the help.

Series 3 3 bearing. 8:1 compression. Duck egg blue. Entirely likely that it's not been in there undisturbed since new.

Photo is of the head after some cleaning - there is a slight hint of blue paint, so you are right, that does look like that was the original colour. I presume it is frowned-upon to change the colour (e.g. to limestone?), as that duck egg blue is a bit shocking.

Your engine, your choice, consequences are on you.

In terms of value, original is preferred, but.....

The light green ones you see are likely ex military units that when in service had had a refurb/rebuild, so not a totally incorrect colour if you know what I mean.
