No...you had an issue or did I 'miss' something?:)

Listen you bloomin heilan choob! :D

I "knew" I had a misfire, but never thought it was a head gasket issue until the heads came off. THEN, I didn't know I had a hole in me ingin until I found the damnable hole....o_O

Although I get your point, I will argue just coz :p

But seriously, I am upset to the point where I was actually crying today o_O

I really do not "need" any more pish :(

Sorry...

bit of work with a dremel to clean/dovetail the area, bit o chemical metal and some deft bastard and smoothing then build her up...your a long time dead!

My problem is, I cannot simply sell a fellow human a car that is essentially bodged...:(

It "has" to be 100% when I pass it on.

No compromise o_O

Liners drop due to the block cracking near the water jacket.

On some RV8 blocks the water galleries are offset due to poor tooling and the thin wall cracks allowing the block to shrink away from the liner and you get the tell tale tapping in short etc

The bit of "shít" you can see on the block deck i'd be inclined to throw a new composite gasket and throw it back together the fire ring will more than cover that up. ;) , putting a new bottom end on it will be cost prohibitive, and not worth it in the long run.

It is worth more in parts..

I have a composite gasket set and new stretch head bolts. But that "hole" has me imagining all sorts

It looks like it was already thrown together with composite gaskets and it lasted 22k miles :(

Was the gasket blow between the cylinders with the damage?

Yes. RIGHT at the place where the hole is....

I'm going to chuck the battery on mine tomorrow and if it fires up OK, I'll get a video for Doo so if he wants to collect and do an engine swap he can.

@Doo that's the answer. Swap the lumps. 2 members sorted in 1. I have serious misgivings on how true the history of yours is.

Ok then, I'd be tig'ing it.

I did wonder if something like that could be done. I've known people fill cracks and even wedge wire in and skim it and they've lasted. Never tried on an RV8 though.

Tig's the name of the game, then peen, then bastard, then smooth, then build her up,
tis only a little ickle flaw and above the line of the 1st compression ring.

(I've never done it...but would)

That would appear to be the culprit then.. ;)

On 1275 Minis you could lay a length of fuse wire between the cylinders under the gasket to help negate blowing between cylinders.

dunno if that would be applicable here though! ;)

A 2nd hand bottom end should be cheap enough.

Or you could have that one sleeved and decked..

Either that or put it in the donor with some Quiksteel and sell as running spare or repairs.

I used that Quiksteel in a trailer 20 odd years ago for some bolts that sheared off. It was supposed to be a get out of jail to get me back but I still see the trailer occasionally and the damn stuff is still there!

Remarkable stuff, but all this "I couldn't live myself," whilst admirable, is not really how one should prepare a vehicle for sale....really.

Where is the 'get real' button?

I get your doubts. But the indie reported the engine arrived from RPI in a crate and was basically immaculate. He dropped it in at 84k. I bought it at 86k.

He did tell me recently that the owner roasted the lump not days after he collected it up from the indie... Turned out to be the AC condenser fins were blocked (which was highly likely what killed the original engine).

Then it sat for 5yrs before I collected it... That's the history.

I have spent a fortune on this car o_O
