Please could anyone inform me as to which engine oil is best for my 2004 TD5. On my 300 TDI I have been using 10W40 semi synthetics, A3, B3, SL, CF (not sure what all these mean). Many Thanks...Tony

HOORAY!!!! AGAIN!! ANOTHER CHANCE TO WIND UP RIGGAZ!!!!!!!!11

Use Ovoline Tractor Universal Oil .... £1 a litre or so, and extreme quality.

No kidding.

Loads of threads here.

do what i do, but only on different occasions, Never use the same depot. Kwik fit do a oil service, now dont run a mile, they use Magnetec oil, ideal for a TD5, now ring up for a price, they give you £25 quote, book it in, pay your money, and wait for the answer.

I do this every 6k, Kwik fit dont class 200, 300, TD5, TDv6. Its a discovery to them. they always charge £25 and I am always cheeky and ask them to fit my filter, a ebay genuine jobby.

Now I challenge you to find 8 litres of Magnetic for under £50, and never get dirty changing it.

Before you question this, I checked the oil going in, the barrels have either Mobile 1, or Magnetec.

Go on, try it

Wow 2 good replys Thanks. Are any of these oils in both replys synthetic or semi synthetic, also is the TD5 suposed to have synthetic or semi synthetic.
I can't find my owners hand book so i dont know what type or grade Landrover recomend...Thanks Again....Tony

are **** quick still doing the pricing based on yer injun size? ah used to have a mini clubman auto fer a run about. being a mini it had a rather large sump and am sure the filter itself cost more than the total price of their oil change.
yer just gotta not get snared with their " we looked at yer brakes and they need to be completely replaced" routine

replaced my oil 4 weeks ago with castrol magnatec diesel 10w/40 - got it from a mate who bought it several months ago from halfords (£50's worth) & then he didn't need it - he asked me if i wanted it for a tenner - thought about it for about 1/100th of a second & said 'YES PLEEEEAAASE'

Thanks i will try to get my head around it all. I think the oil i already have will be OK but not sure about it only being semi synthetics and not full synthetics. Can anybody let me know as i have about 40 lts but don't want to risk knackering my engine...Thanks Again...Tony

Just as long as the viscosity and spec are right you'll be fine, i think most semi synth 5w/30 meet A1 B1 so it will meet land rover min spec ok pal

Good grief!
We do get so wound up about engine oils!
We are brainwashed by oil companies and garages so that we feel we must buy the most expensive potions. MADNESS!!!

Use a decent quality oil of about the right viscosity, and change it every 6 to 8,000 miles, less if you do a lot of stop-start town work, more if you do mostly long runs.

If you pay more than about £2 a litre for oil you are being ripped off. The profit margins on "premium oils" are huge. Why should you be ripped off to buy an oil that really doesn't do a damn thing a £2 a litre oil will do just fine?

As a matter of interest, what are people paying per litre for engine oils these days?

Let's find out who charges the most!

£0 at the moment..... :)

Still got a load of Castrol RS sitting around after a sponsorship deal, though Ive not put any in the Discovery yet, I assume its ok as its a 0W/40 fully synthetic race oil.

How much of it have you got?

Mixed with a touch of kero it makes a great fuel.
