Hi there. This morning the pipe connecting the engine to the engine oil cooler decided to let go. Police wouldn't have found it difficult to trace me if they wanted. Is this like the transmission oil cooler where the pipes corrode into the cooler so better to buy cooler and pipes?

Also Island only have Britpart, do I get the parts from Island or go elsewhere?

Just my luck that the Rangie goes just as I need to take the C1 off the road. The idea was that I have 2 cars so I can have a car whilst I repair the other one. Looking on the bright side I am furloughed so don't need a car for the commute to work at the moment.

Engine or gearbox would be a good place to confirm first.

but they only do 1 each. Not connected.

Cheers everyone I suspected it would be a new cooler and pipes.

Just one question. Do I need to order O rings for both ends of each pipe?

Hi again, I have finally got round to replacing the oil cooler. I am at the point where I need to remove the pipes. Would anyone know what size spanner I need, I think its a 26mm one but would like to be sure as I will need to order one, hate going to Halfrauds. Also as a temp measure could I remove the pipes from the engine with an adjustable spanner or is that a big no no?

If you are talking about the diesel M51 oil cooler, don't waste your money on a spanner, the unions will not undo due to electrolytic corrosion between the alloy cooler stub and the steel union nut:eek: It is possible to get new flexi's crimped on to your existing pipes, otherwise it's a new cooler needed as well as new pipes. Or you could try cutting off with a Dremel.

Thanks Datatek. How do I remove the pipes from the oil filter housing? I could not find a reference to the pipes in Rave (probably looking in wrong place) and LRcat points to both pipes being held in place by a clamping system. Do you remove the oil filter housing or do you undo just undo the clamp?

Just undo the clamp.
Next time I have to do the job I will just get new hoses crimped on to the existing pipes at the local agricultural repair shop.
Some have fitted new hoses using jubilee clips which should be OK if there is a small flare at the end of the metal pipe.

Cheers again Datatek. Looking at the oil cooler it looks like the lower pipe has corroded and developed a leak or the O ring has failed. Both pipes have huge scales of rust on them so it looks like I was lucky to be near home when it went and avoided a siezed engine.

New oil cooler and pipes it is then:(

Mine came with o rings already fitted. I orders new ones just in case.

1 bolt holds the clamp to the pipes under the filter.

You will need some locking compound for the single bolt on the oil cooler as it's a very low torque setting to allow for expansion. Don't over tighten it. You will need a new cooler if you do.

Single bolt on the cooler? No bolt on mine, just 2 pipe unions. Maybe you are referring to the condenser?
