Series 3 Engine number identification

Evening everyone.
Finally finding some time to carry on with Noel's rebuild.

Looking at the LR workshop guide, it tells me I need imperial bolts for the crank cover for engine numbers before 36123672B or 36407286B
And metric thereafter.

Mine is 9510***8A
So, imperial or metric please
It's a newer number but
It's the 'A' at the end that's thrown me.

Do you mean the front cover for timing chain
I would guess it’s imperial with it being 3 bearing
Have you tried any screws to test

A comes before B.

Stick your chassis number in this.

1975 lwb S3 2¼petrol
Yes, front cover for timing chain.
Not tried any yet as I don't have any.

So the letter takes priority over the number.

Gear box suffix's work much the same way, although when series 3 came out they went back to A but in a different place.

Who can tell. It often relies on what they had on the shelf at the time and who was on strike that week.
