Hi all,

New to the forum so .. Hi

Got a problem which started a few days ago and seems to be getting worse !!

When the engine stands still it sit around 700rpm but when i pull off or accelerate it the engine judders but when i press down further on the accelerator all goes back to normal until i have to accelerate again. So it seems its just when at a low rpm.

It seems that i am in to higher a gear for the speed I'm doing.

I thought it might be leads or a locked air filter but as im a novice under the bonnet I thought i should ask before buying parts etc.

Thx

Sorry its a 1.8 petrol

when was it last serviced? it could be a few things, also where abouts are you, if your local i could have a quick look

It was serviced about 6/7 months ago when i had the engine redone. It is due another but was waiting for my Tesco clubcard vouchers to come through to get one done with then hahaha.

Im in Nottingham mate :)

not really near me then lol, i'm in essex

i would say check your spark plugs and also check the header tank and oil for signs of headgasket fail

Not close then lol ....

I had the HG done about 6/7 months ago so I would hope it isnt that and I also had the clutch done about 5 months ago ..(not had much luck lately lol) had the brakes done at the same time as the HG.

Does it sound like it's firing on only a few cylinders? Any other weird noises? Have you checked the basics like air filter (not dusted up/damp etc), plugs (not corroded) etc?

It shouldn't be head gasket failure if you've already had it done, but it has been known to happen and it is also down to the quality of the job they did.

As someone that can drive a car and thats about it lol, I would take a guess that it does sound like its missing, but it doesnt always do it ! The water level hasnt changed so Im thinking the HG is ok. When I first start it up its ok and gradually gets worse after driving a little. I havent checked the air filter/leads/plugs yet as im unsure where they are and what im doing, but if the general idea is that it is that sort of thing I will take it down tomorrow and get it a good service.

My 1.8 used to miss when I came off the throttle and then re- applied changed the plugs and coil packs all now ok

That does seem to be what happens, I can be driving then when pressure is applied it goes juddery for a little then picks up again
