Which Isuzu engine? I have heard of people fitting a 2.8 Isuzu turbodiesel to Series 3's but it is not a particularly common conversion. Those Isuzu engines are very reliable and can do huge mileages so unless there is something wrong with the engine you will get very little benefit from fitting a reconditioned one. One thing to be aware of though is that engine produces far more torque than the original series engines and can quickly break a worn gearbox. So while fitting a recon engine might not be worth it, giving your gearbox an overhaul may well be.
