Hi Disco lovers... (I don't mean the musical type 🤣🤣). I own a Discovery 2, 4.6 V8 petrol. (Automatic). Recently I experienced 3 occasions where, while driving along normally, the engine cut out without warning. Immediately after cutting out, the warning lights on the dash came on. The first time I tried to restart, but the starter motor didn't even turn over. However after approx 40 mins while waiting for the recovery truck, I tried to start and the engine started at first turn of the key.
The second time I tried to restart and the starter motor turned over, but the engine wouldn't fire.
The third time was the same as the second time. The distances driven were shorter every time.
Does anyone have any suggestions???
Thanks.

Sounds fuel supply related to me, unless it is a dry joint in a circuit board somewhere.

The CPS is a single point failure, I also have had a MAF which starts then stalls straight away.

This is a bit? neither of the failures above should stop cranking. but it then cooled and started (which is normal failing for a CPS after cooling). Maybe you have a couple of issues.

Do you have the GEMS or THOR engine? I would take a guess at THOR.

But you really needs some diagnostics on it to help.

Not normal D2 V8 UK spec engine then.
Here in the U K we have a D2 with a Thor 3947 engine, which is so call by Land Rover a 4.0 litre D2, a different engine to D1 but the same CC as a D1 V8, which is called a 3.9.

So where in the World are you?

Believe 4.6 was export only, so quite rare. But basically the same as the 4.0 Thor . But bigger ;).
