Be sure to get one where the front wheels will fit between the car wheels, that way you can get the lift hook over the centre of the engine. Also remember that the further out the lift hook is positioned, the lower the lift capacity of the crane.
I borrowed a Clarke, 1 ton folding crane when I pulled the engine out of my P38, V8 and there was plenty of height available and it coped easily. The P38 height wise is higher than the Hippo.
Also, as has been posted, how often will you use it ??-if it's once every few years then cost wise it would be better to hire or borrow one...or maybe, if you have a few DIY buddies, club together and buy one for shared use.
Nice to have these "Boys Toys"...just in case but they take up room and gather dust, never to be used !!
Years ago, myself and a mate removed and refitted several engines including a V8 out of a Rover P6 with just a rope round our shoulders, standing either side of the car on platforms made from breeze blocks and short planks, heaving it out and back in !!!
Couldn't do it now though:violin::deadhorse:
