So any joy with my problem
Pull the head of (don't rotate the crank) clean the block and liner tops (carefully). Replace the head if soft, or have it faced off if still hard. Use a Payen elastomer gasket kit, which includes steel dowls to replace the fibre ones and refit the head. Tighten new bolts correctly following the torque sequence from the manual. Reassemble all the parts removed, fit new timing belt, tensioner and water pump.
Refill the coolant and bleed correctly, replace the oil and filter.
Double check everything is back together properly and give it a try.

I only wanted some advice on my hg haha... Not an encyclopedia on the liners.... So any joy with my problem
Not really sure what your asking here but I'll have a go.

1. You have a cracked or slipped liner.
Replace or reseal as described earlier.
2. The head was so badly damaged by overheating it got warped.
Have it checked and skimmed or replace head. (You can check it yourself with a good quality straight edge.
3. You cocked up the head gasket replacement.
Do it again right this time.

I'll leave it up to you to decided which option is most likely.

Probably no3... But ill check the rest
If I had done the job that would be my first choice too. :(
Hopefully when you take the head off again you'll discover a humongous cock up, will know what you did wrong and how to avoid the same issue again.
Nothing worse than cocking it up and not knowing how.

Just fitted one of these, branded as BGA purchased locally at motor factors

AVOID AVOID AVOID these aftermarket gaskets by BGA

I have never seen a gasket deteriorate so much in around a year and just under 2k miles

The red elastomeric compound has completely split and blistered, see first attachment,

second attachment shows other OEM gasket which did perish eventually after 12 years of usage, HGF light (no mayo) coolant directly on to exhaust manifold, red elastomeric compound was a lot thinner in the OEM

aftermarket which lasted 10 years, slow HGF, mayo in oil and coolant

Hi ya buddy, I would always have recommended a Payne HG in a K series as it is the most likely to be OK in most situations. I never heard of BGA and am surprised a reputable motorfactor would supply one but I guess price is king for some of them. This is an old thread though so probably too late for this guy but I presume you got bitten.
BTW I take it from your avatar you're based near Ards. Nice pic of Scrabo tower.

Do you mean the Payen Mk3 gasket used by Lotus (RLVB 000320) ?

They tend to be over priced and less available

Agreed about the OP'er no acknowledgement despite expert input by other forum members.
I was purely retracted my endorsement of BGA gasket on an earlier post, which at the time of fitting looked to be a quality product at £32, supplied with it's technical flyer, giving liner height tolerances, torque and tightening sequence. All marketing hype now that I look at the packaging !

I would have said to go to DMGRS for your head gasket but I just checked and they're offering a copy so I you may be right about the availability of the Payne.
I don't have a K series any more so not sure where peeps should go.
