Engine and Gearbox Mounts

My engine mounts are looking fairly tired and I have recently developed a clunking noise when the engine is turned off which I am guessing is the exhaust on the chassis as the engine vibrates down. So, I am going to renew the rubber mounts, and while I am at it will do the gearbox at the same time. The correct part looks to be ANR1808.
Now I want genuine or OEM ones under the assumption that they will last longer and be better quality. However, I have noticed that the OEM one are still britpart. I am not anti Britpart as some are, but I am always careful with what I buy and have not had problems with parts I have had off them. Has any one had any experience with these are they any better than the standard britpart item? If they are no better than standard I will save myself the money and get the cheap britpart ones instead.
 
Have read a few threads on the 200tdi engine mounts were people were getting engine vibration, which was put down to the newer engine mounts being made from harder rubber, as I was getting this from new mounts when I rebuilt the 110 . Some people had fitted mounts from Glencoyne engineering which they reckon are from softer rubber and stop the engine vibration , was planing on trying them myself at some point.

I should have been more specific paddocks offer both ANR1808 and ANR1808G but both are britpart parts.

The current gearbox mounts are the standard britpart ones and have been fine for few years but are begining to show signs of cracking so will be replaced at the same time with what ever I end up getting.

The G suffix denotes parts that are made to OEM specs. Non G code parts are potentially made from inferior quality materials and tolerances. Allegedly.
 
Why not go to Land Rover? Their genuine parts arnt that expensive, I just bought a seal from them, it was the same price as the usual suspects charge, less than some of them.
I never understood why people don't go to Land Rover for genuine parts or at least price them up, its a phone call at most, cant hurt can it?
When the usual suspects sell genuine parts where do you think they get them from?

Having worked in manufacturing I can tell you the G means nothing if pattern and genuine come from the same supplier, the manufacturer sells to customers like Britpart, they know that BritPart have buying power, bearing in mind both genui9ne and pattern could well come from the same manufacturer. So they build to a cost, not a quality.

our local lr main dealer has regular deliveries from britpart, i shouldnt think they are alone in that
 
A main dealer can sell Britpart rubbish if he wants, it doesn’t mean that all the parts he sells are Britpart. Britpart do undertake distribution work for Land Rover parts as well. Genuine Land Rover parts, boxed/bagged as such and bought from a main dealer will be the real deal.

The issue with ‘OEM’ is that it has no proper legal definition and generally just means it is supposedly made by a company that at one time has made parts for a motor manufacturer. It does not imply any level of quality on its own.

Knowing the actual brand of the part gives a slightly higher level of reassurance, however can still leave you with lower quality goods. For example if you buy ‘OEM’ wheel bearings and get a proper Timken set you can be reasonably happy that they’re good (so long as they’re not knock-offs), however a set of ‘OEM’ UJs from GKN will not be the same as the part in a Land Rover box unless you are very careful in which ones you buy.

Caveat emptor, as they say.

It's a minefield full of sharks and charlatans and no mistake! :eek:
 
Well I have a set of britpart supplied OEM ones coming, more for ease than anything else (I needed some more parts to get my paddocks order to free delivery to take advantage of the black friday discount). I will see how the go. I may end up swapping them for the Glencoyne ones but if they are quality OEM the will hopfully be ok.
