Hello, I've recently purchased a TD5 90 from a friend but can't get the diff engaged. I have no problem getting into hi/lo but can't get across to diff. Having spoken to the previous owner he told me he probably hasn't selected diff for the last 2 years.
Is there an easy way of fixing it or a garage job?

The 110 I regularly borrow will appear to engage difflock, but it doesn't stay in/on. The stick moves over but doesn't clunk, and the light goes out by itself as and when...

I haven't jacked it up and tried spinning a wheel, but with the behavior above, and the fact it made hard work of a boggy track my newly purchased 90 made light work of, I don't think it engages every time. The stick on the 90 clunks in, and the light stays firmly on.

Is yours like the 110 - the stick moves most of the way, but you just know its not selected lock properly??

jack one front wheel up and be sure ,if it isnt repair/adjust linkage

I know - I should, but I don't have a suitable jack for either yet.

(Been searching, and can't make up my mind what I should get as don't want to lug 3 tonne trolley jack about, and have read hi-lifts are for more recovery purposes. So LR standard jack most suitable probably - but that is probably another thread!)

The diff lock does work some times as occasionally I need to reverse to disengage. It definitely locked fine on Sunday (after a bit of faffing about with the stick) trying to help move a mobile home after the MF135 hooked up to it lost momentum and everything came to a halt. Alas it beat us - the ground was too soft and the home too heavy - but it was good fun trying :)

Let me guess 110 is older

Stick it in gear

Keep the clutch in

Put it into diff lock and lift the clutch slowely,

Everything will line up and it will clunk in ;) my 87 90 is like that but my 1990 disco clunks in no sweat , as does the lt85 box i bought for the 90 :)

Bingo -it's a 19j on a g plate (or h) and the 90 is a 200tdi k.

Best part of a tonne of soil in the back that is just about to be deposited in that gateway...

I don't want to take this thread too far off track, but looking at jacks, can anyone tell me if a closed height of 26cm will fit under the axle of a Landy? Looking at rough numbers it must be very close..?
