4 litre petrol gems engine
Failed it's mot on emissions readings as follows
Fast idle co 5.292
Hc 842
Lambda 0.912

Second idle co 5.986
Hc 1069
Lambda 0.876
Natural idle co 3.455 %volume
Exhaust emits excessive dense blue smoke during acceleration.

I have 5 days before the mot runs out I need some help.
I have no access to fault codes stored.

If it's blowing blue smoke it's burning oil.

Blue smoke is oil, nothing else it can be.
The CO and HC could be put down to a dodgy lambda sensor as both of those readings are out of range. But they are well above the limits for a CAT vehicle

How long has the engine been emitting "dense blue smoke" ?

How often do you have to top up the crankcase?

I did head gaskets and valve stem seals and cured the smoke but since I put the plenum the right way round and connected up the crankcase breathers it has started blowing smoke. Haven't had to fill oil as yet.

Have you checked the crankcase breathers aren't blocked? Also check that the oil separator is still present

Thanks I am assuming that the seperator lives inside the pipe and I am sure it doesn't have one (no suprise there) as an experiment disconnected both pipes and took it for a short run (to the shop to buy some fags) and the amount of smoke seemed to have diminished have ordered two lamda will fit them when they land and hope it is enough to get her through the mot.
