I hope you are right but I did read that renault have a manual release lever down the side of the seat or somewhere obscure.
However if you use it, by default it breaks something which is then very expensive to replace!!
Wheres the sense in that? apart from making more money!!!
release lever in front of boot. pulling it disengages drive in the epb motor box. needs to be stripped to re-engage and a trip to the stealers to resync it :(.

dont ask how i know :(.

I believe electronic handbrakes were the bastard-child of Renault - to allow the cabin seats in the espace to be turned around at meal times etc....ie the handbrake lever didn't knock f**k out of your shins when burlin' about
The early versions of EHB had release levers - usually in the boot - but they were use once and replace..expensively!
The latter versions did away with the release mechanism, esp those with auto-operation capability.
Most automatic cars have a method of releasing the parking brake and getting the vehicle into neutral in order to be able to recover them - but not all! Even those that do require careful removal of the trim around the operating lever area and the application of a fine screwdriver to a dodgy bit of plastic....very expensive if you get it wrong! BMW series 5 are a nightmare!
It is usually possible to winch or tow a car with the EHB on, or if not then force a bit of wood or plastic/rubber under the tyres and use that as sledges.
:D

Well you learn something new every day o_O. I like to be fully in control of my vehicle & not be dictated to by electronics that will fail sooner or later anyway & cost me a load of money. Once these cars are out of warranty they can become a financial liability.
Yes I know people like me are dinosaurs, but some of these vehicles will be extinct before we are

Fully autonomous braking systems will be mandatory in all new cars in the next 5 years. This is to reduce the number of deaths on the roads, due to driver error or distraction.
While some of us actually like being in control of the vehicle, there are just many who actually like to do as little as possible in the driver's seat. These fully autonomous systems allow those types of drivers to just sit in the seat and steer the car, just intervening occasionally when the autonomous system doesn't know what to do in a particular given scenario.

It's truly amazing just how far a normal family car has come in the last 10 years, especially where crash avoidance is concerned.

Advances in techno. are mirrored in repair costs. The best 'crash avoidance ' gadget is a driver who keeps his/her eye on the ball.
Remember the old adage ''of all the thousands of components that make up a car the biggest problem is the nut behind the (steering) wheel'' ;)
