You need to apply some throttle, before the E parking brake releases.
The E parking brake, doesn't release until there's some throttle being applied, as a safety feature. This makes sure the brake holds, should the drive release the clutch unintentionally.

This is the same, regardless of make and vehicle type.

Yes thanks for your reply I hear what you say and accept the practise however autos I’ve driven will move off by just lifting off foot brake without throttle input. Think we need to start using handbrake manual release lever in backing out of supermarket parking spaces

All Land Rover’s I’ve driven with electric park brake have always released with throttle input and never with removing foot from brake pedal only. Can’t comment on other brands as don’t have great experience with them to comment for sure.

As you said you can always release the epb manually using the switch

Automatic boxes are different, and do creep in drive or reverse. However you can't accidentally slip off the clutch on an auto, and it'll only creep slowly, so there's a minimal safety issue. Slipping off the clutch of a manual, will cause the vehicle to lurch onto motion, so the EPB will hold the vehicle still, until a throttle demand had been input.

They're all the same, regardless of make. I've driven manual vehicles from LR, VW, Audi, Vauxhall, Ford, Peugeot, Citroen and Mazda, all need throttle input before an E parking brake releases.

It's a safety feature, so the brake only released when actually needed.
