Loaded his sankey up & we took that lot to scrappies, I tried toi get em to take the 109 & sankey But parrently they dun't class Rust flakes as metal

As a welder of 18 yrs, my advice would be if you really want to buy a welder to learn to weld with as well as repair your motor, shell out for as good a second hand one with as many fine settings as you can. If you can't stretch to this and are limited at buying one with such few setting options as the one pictured earlier in this thread then you'd be better off getting your welding done elsewhere. Know your limits.
I use three phase industrial sets but have a couple of 240v sets also. One is a 196 mig and its horrible to weld with. 240v welders just don't weld anywhere near as well as an industrial set. So, as a novice trying to learn on a fifty quid set with few settings, as Thor intimated earlier, it's a bit like the one legged man.
The most important thing for any novice to learn isn't how to weld, it's how to set up your welder. If your settings are limited to start with, chances are it'll do more harm than good.
I do this **** for a living to a good standard and I don't like doing car welding with my Murex 240A Tradesmig set!
