is suprising how many reports i read regarding the jatco gearbox and how many garages either under or overfilled them, as they didnt know how to do them

mines on 98,000 so also think it's time , have u seen the trick where u can pump most of the gearbox oil out via the gearbox intercooler hose , then use a plastic jerry can, adapting it , pressuring it and pump the oil back in
Yep, think i read part of that on disco3. I'd be a little worried about running the gearbox low on fluid while it empties out. Suppose if you can pump in a similar amount through the cooler to that coming out it would be ok, then finally measuring any difference & topping up etc. I should read the full description though. I'd still be inclined to check the level on the filler to check the box was at the proper level anyway.

agree, i would also be worried if a pipe came off and can u just imagine litre after litre of oil being sprayed everywhere , having to let go while u try and quickly turn the engine off

would be ok i think if there was 2 x of u

i will be happier just undoing the filler/level plug first then drain plug and allow it to slowly come out at its own pace

think u can only get around 5 x litres out , dry i've read its around 9.5 litres as the remainder stays in the torque converter

next week for my transfer gearbox , i'm going to clear the adaptive software and reflash it with an updated software program from gap iid, costs. £25 quid , add the software to my iid via my laptop , then put the iid dongle into the obd2 socket and then reflash and update it

that's to stop the take up feeling u get when u lift ur foot off and on again of the accelerator , or they call it " california stop" ,

have already reflashed and updated all the other ecus, my heart increased as i was waiting for the program to finish

don't know if u also get the same kind of thing

Hopefully this won't make u nod off, lol

here's the info of the 15 x ecus , u can see the transfer is the last one left to be updated

I'd agree, may be less stressfull draining from the sump ;)
I've not got any diagnostics yet but understand the iid is the one to go for. I also need to re-flash my transfer ECU as i get the clunk on take up. Unbeleivable this is cured with a re-program as it feels mechanical like a stretched chain!
Thanks for the info on the iid. Next I want to put the steering controls on as mine is a base spec. Think the stereo controls are plug & play but the cruise control needs enabling.

ur not wrong there , at least then can have a cuppa while is draining ;)

at first i thought it was a bad uj on the prop, i then found out ref the software update

the Gap iid is indeed very good, can virtually do the same as the land rovers T4 , has a great program to recalibrate all the suspension , if u fit a new height sensor the iid can re program the new one

mines also the base 7 x seat model, have added the controls on mine , along with fitting the updated discovery 4 wiper and indicator stalks

activated the cruise control myself with the iid

alas it is £420 , is bluetooth and use the software program on ur ipad or mobile , it has paid for itself very quickly

have u got the time on ur dashboard display ,

assume you've already done the automatic door lock setting

i've also fitted front electric seats and done the wiring modification

Whilst your on about the idd, do you know how to turn the compass on, mine used to have it and after messing about with some settings I've gone and lost it, just get the message compass not available

Whilst your on about the idd, do you know how to turn the compass on, mine used to have it and after messing about with some settings I've gone and lost it, just get the message compass not available

try this

go into ur screen and select off road navigation

or

Push the left hand nav button to select between on and off road nav, then once on off road mode, use the right hand button to select 4x4 info and you should have the compass

Yeah I have the screen for the compass but no compass, just the message compass not available?

ah i see , aplogies, didn't realise when u select the off road screen it's not there

have u gone into the invisible screen settings , called the diagnostics and resetting the gps

I've not got the time on the dashboard display, is this easy to do? I have time display on the aftermarket stereo & sat nav screen fitted so hasnt bothered me too much but would be nice.
Automatic door locking you say? Mine need the double press on the fob to open all doors but i actually prefer that. May turn off the seatbelt chime though as that gets annoying.

A few pics of mine so far :

Fitted reversing camera into aftermarket sat nav unit - screen comes up when you select reverse.

Really need to add the steering controls....

aplogies can't see the pics, would be nice to have reversing camera , alas i've not got the info screen

the clock reqs an updated software , didn't know if u already had that

ref the auto lock, what i mean is , the doors automatically lock after u go over 10 mph ,

seatbelt chime, are u talking about the front passenger seat belt chime , , i.e. occupancy warning

this is the clock displayed in the instrument panel , forget to set it to 12 hours, lol

I find the double press of the fob really annoying, I wish I could open all the doors on a single press.

need an iid to do that

u can however set up several options that does not need the iid , i.e. where the doors automatically lock over 10mph , follow me home lights , etc

I've got an idd, so how do I open all doors from a single press of fob.
Also compass now works, thanks

great , have u got the manual for the iid as i can send u a link if u haven't

that's good you've got one , the single unlock should be in the CCF settings but will double check for u

can u remember which version of software u have please ,

am very impressed in what the iid will do, turning things on and off

by the way may i ask, do u also that slack knock when u take ur foot on and off the accelerator
