EGR what is the point.

I get it. you get better mileage and it's a way to better driving. but my td5 es goes well anyway with the EGR. would anyone recommend me to blank it off ?
 
It reduces tail pipe emissions, apparently.
If you get rid. Keep all the bits so you can fit it should they tighten emissions control legislation

As things stand interfering with the functioning of it should be an MOT failure, but most pass as the tester can't be fecked, or can't see it.

My advice, leave it on, just take it off and clean it once in a while.
And yes, I have taken them off both my 300tdi and my TD5 and despite what I was lead to believe I didn't see any improvement at all in anything except the cleanliness of the inlet manifold.
So I kept the bits and one day if told to I could put them back on.
 
Clean the EGR valve and MAP sensor then unplug the solenoid's electric connector(if it's Eu3 unplug them both, this is a good move cos it takes the unnecessary load on the MAF's feed circuit so there will be no voltage drop there), eventually plug it back only for MOT, simple as that.
 
IMHO EGR delete does more harm than good (if any). Aside from the obvious contravention and the avoidable NOx emissions (read https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...ions-the-legal-safety-and-health-implications), recirculated exhaust gases help control combustion and therefore engine temperature and the ECU software is tuned for this performance envelope. Later TD5 models even have a water-cooled EGR setup (and a CAT) to meet EU3 legislation. Blanking the EGR on any engine will cause that engine to run hotter - I've seen data where the exhaust gas temperature can go up by 40 degrees C without EGR. And that's not good news for many things, including the engine oil, gaskets, cylinder head, turbo, etc.
 
I think if EGR systems were more reliable then most people would not even consider blanking them.

I can tell you blanking the egr on a D3 did effect the way it drove, and I am usre knocked some mid range torque on the head, when I mentioned this on the D3 forum I got pood pood by a few guys, but interestingly a few people said they had noticed the exact same as I had.
I only blanked it as when D3 egr fails open the car is pretty much undriveable.

I think the ex gas temperatrure can go up as the engine has more oxygen to burn rather than the a percentage of exhaust gases.
