Hi all,on my 2.5 bmw engined p38 ,the egr valve has 2 connections approx 3mm dia . the top one is connected to a device on the bulkhead passenger side(maybe fuel, has filter device) the lower one is not connected to anything.Has anyone got any idea where this goes to? no pipe or anything obvious, and I cant find anything in search. thanks Mick

That is a very early EGR valve. Not fitted to the P38. Should only have one pipe going to modulation control valve. The part on the passenger bulkhead. Has your car been re-engined? Is the manifold plastic or alloy?

Hi,yes it has been re engined 4 years ago with all the paperwork from RR The inlet manifold is plastic, and the device on the bulkhead has a filter open to atmosphere so I presume that its vacuum device. the two pias are each side of the diaphragm, the one nearest to the cylinders is the one with no pipe connected to it. thanks

Thank you wammers for your explanation. why did you ask the question in your answer if you didnt want to bother explaning further. I just hope that ignorance isnt catching

Just leave the rubber tube to the EGR from the valve on the bulkhead off thus disabling the EGR stopping all the **** going into the manifold. Block the rubber tube with an M5 screw.

Which part of it's got the wrong EGR valve fitted do you not understand? It has a very early EGR valve fitted. Up til December 1995 EC level 1 EGR control regulations applied. On 1 Jan 1996 EC level 2 regulations came into force, at least in Europe, but not in the UK. At that time EGR with feedback control was introduced. This uses a MAF sensor. Giving feedback of air flow, less airflow more exhaust gas, more air flow less exhaust gas. So that the ECU knows the amount of exhaust gas being ingested at any point in EGR operation, and can adjust the modulation of the EGR valve vacuum to increase of decrease exhaust gas in a finer and more controlled way. On the introduction of EGR to the P38 in 1998 the EC level 2 system was used to meet regulations. And the new type single vac pipe EGR valve was fitted. So all in all yours has the wrong EGR valve, that type was never fitted to any P38. There is no other pipe to fit. How is that for an explanation?

I did not ask for or need a full explanation thanks I simply asked a question.You. answered and asked me a question which I answered .I presumed that you asked a question for a reason, maybe to more fully answer my question. your reply was curt to say the least, as iI said before I hope ignorance is not catching. Please if I ask a question in future ,do not bother to answer, I would prefer to wait for a human to answer Thanks again Mick

Oh dear Mick. Totally uncalled for.

So I am supposed to accept bad manners as a matter of course am I .I do not accept that. perhaps I come from a different era than others. If the man had nothing to say then he should say nothing. I am not doubting his knowledge just his manners

"Has the car been re engined,is the manifold plastic or alloy" are questions are they not? Ireplied to both these because I thought they were relavent. to be told "thats the best answer you are going to get" says it all
