Here you go, you are doing a good job did you completely clean the manifold out, and when you did clean, was the MAP sensor removed to do so, if not it may have got damaged.

You could also change the leak off joint from plastic to brass a lot more safe, as the plastic ones can and do go brittle.

I always have at least four manifolds clean and ready to fit to R40 or FL1 for our meets.
Thanks. I removed the MAP before I cleaned the manifold (not that I knew what it was called). I cleaned it out as best I could, looked really good when I'd finished (all the bits I could shine a torch in to see anyway.)

I get it from my local motor factors. You need 3.5mm ID pipe, or close to it. I find 4mm ID a bit loose on some connections.
Ah great... I've gotta pop out for a few extra tools today anyway (ready to fit the new VCU at the weekend) so might run down to the car parts place and see if they have any pipe in stock.
Thanks for the info Re 3.5mm pipe... I assume the pipe is just push on so better to have it nice and tight.

hanks for the info Re 3.5mm pipe... I assume the pipe is just push on so better to have it nice and tight.

3.5mm ID is the standard German vac pipe size. It's used on all German made engines from BMW, Audi, VW and Mercedes.
It needs to fit securely without being so tight that it's difficult to fit, or it just splits after a while. I've tried 3mm ID in the past, and while it works for a while, it soon splits where it's pushed on to the fittings.
