Hi,
I have seen the EGR Removal Kits advertised, are they any good? worth the money?
Not really after extra performance but better MPG would be preferable.

There are endless discussions on here. Have a search. I would say slight improvement BUT on older engines the valve tends to stick open. If yours is sticky there will be a very noticeable difference.

MPG will improve slightly, engine will feel smoother. Well worth doing.

EGR Blanking Kit - all TD5

At that price it's a no brainer.

If you want to improve mpg further and if your current exhaust downpipe has a cat in it, replace with a non-cat downpipe - cost about £60 - improves engine efficiency, so extra mpg if you don't use the extra performance:D:D

you won't really notice a big difference with it gone but your engine will and by removing it you are allowing your engine to breath clean air there for extending the life of your engine ,

its kind of like a person giving up the fags they feel better and hopefully live longer :D

Thanks for the replys Guy's. Hopefully I will be collecting My TD5 this week so this sounds like my first job under the bonnet :)

I got the kit from paddock, no gasket on the manifold blanking plate which made it blow, so got a tube of exhaust gasket, job a good un. O and don't shear the bolt like I did and remember to unplug the egr connection plug on the drivers wing

I like the idea of blanking off the EGR, after all who wants their engine inhaling rubbish? Also, EGR can only reduce power and economy.

Just a thought though, on some engines (notably the later shape Renault Laguna diesels), the EGR also performs a cooling function, for the turbo. The upshot of this is, if the EGR packs up, then the turbo gets hotter and fails itself some time later.

Whilst the 300Tdi doesn't have any problems with blanked off EGR, can anyone confirm that this doesn't happen with the Td5?

Many thanks

I have my egr blanked off and haven't had any problems myself or heard of any problems either.

Had mine blanked off two years never had any problems nor heard of any:Dtouchwood

Hi guys im thinking of getting a egr removal kit for my td5 90 but just wondered how they get through the Emissions for an M.O.T do they still pass ok or do you have to swap it all back over for the test? mike

Hi Mike, re the mot - for diesel powere cars the only emisions related ets is a smoke particulate test and removal of the EGR setup will only help in this respect. The engine will run cleaner.

So, a simple answer to your question is, no probs with the mot, do not have to reinstall the EGR valve for test.

Only affects the NOx admissions, which are not tested.

Lovely jubly i might have to get online and purchase a kit then are there any kits out there to avoid? or are they all pritty good quality? because the last thing i want is unreliability especially when it is my every day car. thanks

youll need to disconnect the egr plug aswell or it will just keep logging faults in the ecu. just follow the vacuum pipe off the egr. on the defender its on the wing dont know about the disco
