Hello all, I've just ordered an egr blanking kit for my 300tdi disco but having just checked the car and the Haynes manual my egr valve look different. Both the manual and instructions I found on tinternet say to remove the plug from the top of the valve before removing the valve, mine don't have the plug????, all I have is the vacuum pipe coming straight out of the valve. Is this right or has it been tampered with?.

below are 2 Photos the first is my EGR and the second an image I pulled off the web that also matches the manual. please help guys because I need to know before I try to fit this blanking plate at the weekend.

The plug is there on top, its just been unplugged already, your is same as everyone elses, put the blanking plate between the flexipipe and the egr OR remove the EGR completley and you will need a new intercooler to manifold pipe

By the looks of it, your engine is an EDC one and that's why it looks different as there's a big great Mass Airflow Sensor to contend with as well!

Thank you, I have ordered the plate and it comes with the new pipe, now as for blanking the vacuum will a bolt do or should I use something like silicon to get a 100% seal. I won't be using the disco until Sunday so if I did it tonight the silicon would have plenty of time to dry.

Sorry you replied as I was typing so I didn't see it, how would I go about dealing with that?, I presume that's the part by n/s light in front of the air box that the vacuum pipe goes to.

You need the mass airflow sensor for the engine to work! Just commenting on that's why the entire picture looks different, as the EGR probably looks different to accommodate the MAF sensor.

I did my EDC one a couple of weeks ago, replaced the inlet pipe, unplugged the EGR valve, and used the blanking plate at the end of the EGR valve for now. That way I could see if it caused any problems and deal with it properly at a later date, when I can be arsed to shift the allen bolts in the exhaust manifold!

Sorry, misread your post, the MAF sensor is the big block with a heat shield in the inlet pipework - leave that well alone.

The thing down by the headlight is EGR related yes, unplugging it should sort it out, though I wouldn't worry too much

Brilliant thank you, I was just getting worried that I couldn't find any pictured of an egr like mine but you all have been very helpful.

tie a couple of knots in the vaccume pipe will be fine i was upto the windscreen in a lake on the weekend with the same set up as you i blanked it on the manifold comletley removed egr

All done. A squirt of Debloc the night before on the Allen bolts and a second this morning just before removing the erg worked a treat, intercooler taken out and cleaned along with new filters and oils all round and I am a very happy boy with the result. I can feel the difference straight away and the old beast really does pick up well. Note to self though buy a system that can pump the oils into diffs and transfer box, might save me a couple of hours lol. But thanks for the advice peeps.
