Definitely sounds like that MAP sensor.......Is it 'Garage of Dad' thats does those checks for him?? He may not have an interest but I can guarantee that he will have when he's sat at the side of the road in the rain at nighttime because of a lack of maintenance...... My daughter is pretty good, when she passed her test a while back I taught her how to do the basics and change a wheel etc....First wheel she changed was at 0500hrs on her way to work in the middle of winter...she was 5 months pregnant.....didn't phase her......she lives in Scotland so you can imagine what the temperature was like!!

Most times dad i must say tho i pester him more than anything to keep any eye on the water ect but if there is something wrong he will have a go, what a time to get a puncture

My son still hasn't learnt to drive yet. Seems to take a lot of things personally when it come to constructive criticism from driving instructors etc...But he does weild the spanners with me on occasion....My daughter has 'balls' you could say....My son had a motorbike for running around the fields where they live, took him quite a time to get into it and even then if I went with him I could run faster than he was willing to ride it...(I kid you not, I used to run around the track whilst he tried to keep up!!) My daughter though, she 'had a shot' and the next thng was changing gears and (unintentionally admittedly) pulling the odd wheely...Up and down the gearbox wthout a second thought...(She was 15 my son 13 at the time..)

My son can drive, he 'toodles' around private grounds here in Spain in our 'Noddy Car' without any problem just not on the open highway...just needs his test!!

My eldest daughter has the freelander 3 I think it is cost her a lot of penny's and to say she has had numerous problems is an under statement but she loves it one of my other daughters would not know were to start under a bonnet :) her hubby can sort hers out

Is there an EGR delete for FL2's? My ignorance is quite large. Think your EML may 'ignite' if you fit one but there may be a remap?/reprogramme available to switch that off? Let us know..

Just fitted the one with a hole in on my 2013 sd4 up to now all good no major difference but mpg has gone up a little 31.7 to 34.4 I don' know what It will settle at .
What is everyone else getting ???

Hi! Thanks for all the posts on EGR issues. I have a 2008 FL2 HSE 2.2 Auto. Please excuse my asking a dumb question ..... which is, how would I know if I have a sticking EGR valve, or should I just change it anyway?

Well my engine manegment light came on and car in limp mode last week on my 2013 freelander 2 and after a quick visit to my local garage he confirmed that the egr valve needed replacing.
After scouring the internet I decided to get it removed. Total cost £220.00. Well worth the money and it drives perfectly.

Jeez... that's expensive, except to say that unless you know what's needed and you can DIY.
What you should have done was to carry out some research.
LandyZone has all the answers to most problems, I have found, and I like to think I have contributed to some answers.
That price may seem like heaven to you, to one who cannot remedy the problem themselves; but to me... I would scream! The amount of wine, sherry, gin, scotch, etc, I could buy for that amount would keep me happy for ages.
To any who may read this, research your problem on this Forum. It's not only informative - to the extreme, it's also the best across the planet!

Yes it does sound expensive but i dont have any way of reseting the engine manegment light and taking it out of limp mode. Anyway its one problem that wont come back

There are many on this site who are not only helpful with their years of knowledge & experience, but also with the amount of helpful advice on how to go about remedying any or most kinds of problems.
I have to add, that my initial trust in some (suspect) members and their comments stretched my belief in what to not only believe - but also to expect.

LandyZone, and its learned members/followers, has proved itself to be not only the best, but also the most deserving of all Forums for the help and advice they offer - and all for free.
Just research any problem you may have in the future and I feel certain you will find a solution to your perils.

LandyZone is without doubt your answer to salvation, when it comes to learning a way to fix your car.
Here endeth the lesson, for today, my son. lol
God be with you, and landyZone too. lol
PS I'm not religious but thought it would sound good. :D

I would say that apart from a few very notable members, there is not the depth of knowledge with the F2 as there is with F1. The F2 is a much more complex beast and a good diag device is a huge help in trying to identify problems - or at least highlight areas that you can try and work out why the car thinks there's a problem. The diags themselves can (and do often) have hissy fits and can lead to many a garden path being trod for no reason other than "the computer says so". So there's a mix of needing diags and trying to understand when the diags have got the complete wrong end of the stick!

I would also add that you may be paying the garage a visit sooner rather than later to pay for them to install a proper working EGR as its looking like removing the EGR will be a MOT failure shortly! I hazard the cost will be a lot more than £220 to sort that one!

I agree with what you say, Grumpy. The MOT's (ITV's in Spain) are becoming increasingly aware of diesels and their emissions. The EGR will soon be an essential fit, as standard, the way things are going. I'll delay mine until the last moment, or perhaps just refit it for the ITV inspection.

Did my EGR valve mod at the weekend. Three cans of oven cleaner 1st can left over night. Could not believe the gunk that came out of the air box. Put all back together. Engine sounds better, sharper acceleration at low revs. Biggest thing I've noticed is fuel is lasting ages. Put 20 quid in and done loads of miles and compared to before works MPG seems to of improved. It' got to make a difference when towing too.
