just put a EGR blanking kit on mine tonight, it took me 30 mins in total,a good guide came with the kit from Paddocks, but what about the sensor pipes that went on to the old disused EGR unit! what do you do with them now it has been removed?
no waning lights have come on dash to say that it is not connected, car goes a lot better, no black smoke at all
just want to know to tidy up under the bonnet

If its the pipe I am thinking of? On mine I blocked it off with a screw and run it along the inner wing out of the way (with a few cable ties)

When you say 'Sensor pipes', are you certain you don't mean the vacuum hose?

This is connected to the brake servo and if this is not capped off (an appropriately sized bolt inserted tightly into the hose works well for this), you may very well find yourself a little closer to the car in front than you'd wish to be!

If you've already capped this and have additional loose wires then I assume you have an EDC model. The EGR is electronically linked to the EDC and as far as I'm aware, the wires can safely be tidied away without ill effect.

I believe that the wires are just tucked away as the ECU will adapt without it.

Will you post on here if you find any difference in power?

Lots of people mention a difference in smoke, but I have not read one post that states a difference in power.

Towing a 1900kgs caravan, I would be interested in an easy power fix!

John.

you will only notice a differance with smoke if your egr valve is nacked, meaning if it wasn't smoking in the first place and you removed it and fitted a blanking plate you won't notice anything as blanking off the egr valve is the same as having a good working egr valve if you know what i mean.

i used to have a 300tdi manual that i removed and blanked off the egr valve on and i now have a 300tdi auto that i have removed and blanked off the egr valve and on both cars on its own didn't make any differance to, but doing a de-catt will make a big difference.

In that case, it would appear that my auto 300tdi is in good order as there are no adjustments or alterations made, performance is OK, and it doesn't smoke.

Would it not be easier for me just to change the down pipe and and leave the EGR alone? After all, if the EGR removal doesn't make a difference as such, it does seem a waste of time??? ...........or am I missing something?

My exhaust is blowing slightly. I am considering buying and fitting a full system without the middle box.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

change down pipe and fit blanking tin gasket you can make yourself in between valve and manifold ,hot exhaust gasses carbonise oil vapour in inlet manifold sooting it up like a chimmney which will effect performance eventually leave the rest of egr as is decat pipe is defender one err2297
