Afternoon all.

After conversations on the forum and emails with RSWsolutions it would appear the general consensus is that my Driver Pack has given up the ghost.

Going to get a new one, but the only one I've found is on ebay, from P38 Spares for about £180 with postage.

Just wanted to check if anyone new anywhere else cheaper, or if there were brands / sites to avoid when buying these???

Cheers all,

Mark

I believe the springs vs air debate has happend many times on this forum... I'd get rid of half my problems with the car if I moved to springs...

Exactly... Instead of trying to figure out whats wrong with the car I could be spending more time with the missus, doing lots of work for char-ar-tea, living a fuller life.... Hang on a second:doh:

For some reason, I'm sticking with the airbags...

You can get a complete valve block with driver on Ebay for less than £100 secondhand. I paid £50 for a valve block and driver (no compressor) in working order so I can overhaul it as a spare.
There are different brands of P38 Valve Block Driver? I'm surprised:confused:

Here you go; Air Suspension Parts - Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. I know its only £40 cheaper but it all helps. I would NOT fit a s/hand drive pack,in the last couple of years I have done loads of these, they are simply dying of old age and there is no way to check if they are worn/dying. I cant see any point in fitting another s/hand part that could be on the verge of packing up just like yours. The fault codes are also a little confusing too,the most reliable is the "Pressure signal constantly high". But often its just odd behaviour - had one in today just like this with no codes to support its owners complaints.

I have not looked inside a driver yet, are they a sealed unit? Looking at the drawings, the driver is simply a signal amplifier to drive the solenoids. If they can be got apart they should be easy to repair.

If you have taken out loads of dead driver units, would you part with one I can take apart to investigate? If they can be got apart it might not be too difficult to re-con them:D Obviously I would pay the postage and return the unit for you to try if sucessful...........

Potted units are a pain in the ar*e, it is usually expansion and contraction of the potting material that is the root cause of the failures.

Might just have to look at making my own driver when I have time to play.

Thanks for the response.

Amazing how th UK motor industry is so expert at making stuff that doesn't last. My last 2 Volvo's had over 250K miles on them by the time I got rid of them, There had been no serious problems with the running gear, I bought with around 180K on the clock from a friend with a Volvo indy garage so the history was known:D.

Still love my Rangie, keeps my hand in with electronics as well as mechanics:D:D:D

Quite agree, although I run a LR garage specialising in electrical diagnostic work,I'm rapidly getting cheesed off with overcomplicated, poorly made cars that need large amounts of money spent on them.I think vehicle design largely peaked in the mid nineties.Since then the car makers have fallen over themselves to fill cars with unecessary cr-p,but making them cheaper all the time.
I have a TD6 RR in at the moment,02 my with a battery discharge problem, got in it to move it this afternoon - hardly any of the LCD digits in the dash or radio display work - how rubbish is that ? You can buy a digital watch for £3 that will work for years - a £50k car and its all illegible ! Added to that the seat trim falling off etc, etc.

Yep, really sad, the P38 is so nearly a great British product, spoiled I presume by bean counters and graduate dreamers:doh:
