Hello to all,
Well we've had our car a couple of weeks and today the suspension started playing up.
The car went into off road mode all by itself and the compressor was running constantly (even when the car was switched off). It was nearly impossible to drive as it bounced so much and it wouldn't come down.

It wouldn respond to the switch on the dash when I tried to make it go down. Then as quickly as it happened it did eventually respond to the switch and it sat down as normal.
Whe we got home we tried it up and down and it works fine.

I have searched and I found one post which someone is saying some sort of valve is sticking?? Does anybody know a good site that will explain this EAS or has anybody got any idea?
Compressor, height sensor, release valve sticking? (where is the release valve)?

Just in the interest of the board I been doing some digging and it would seem relay 20 (RL20) may be the probelm! I shall explain:
The bit that gives it away is the fact that the compressor keeps running after the ignition is off - which is more bizzar. Someone suggested to me that RL20 could well be stuck open hence the compressor runs without the key in the ignition. This fills the air springs to maximum height. It has been suggested to me that I could swap the relay for another relay of the same colour in the fuse box to check this issue out.
IMHO I think this is a secondary fault as when I've look closer at my compressor it runs for 20 to 25 seconds then goes off for about 10 seconds then back on for 20 and off for 10 etc... in a cycle even when the car is set to normal height. This suggests to me that there is a leak somewhere and the compressors is constantly trying to compensate. This inturn has meant relay 20 has been working overtime too as its this relay the governs the compressor.
I have to credit most of these findings to a very helpful chap I found via ebay who pointed me in the direction of the relay when I emailed him (I didn't know the compressor was on and off every ten seconds till this moring).

hiya richard , mine did exactly the same last summer and it was a faulty relay in the fuse box under the bonnet mate , easy to check just exchange the suspect relay with one that is not used very often i.e air con relay .
mine was even running when everything was turned off only way to stop it was to unplug the bleeder :) or of course take out the relay .

hi again it is quite possible on your car that the relay failure may be down to another fault somewhere but, on mine it was the relay alone that was the fault .
i have access to autologic and when i checked after replaceing the relay it showed no faults .
for the sake of 2 minutes work it may well be worth giving it a go .

Hi,

recently our P38 has been doing exaclty the same, periodically going to high position, then yesterday EAS fault came on whilst on the motorway, roughly 20 mins later beep beep beep max speed 35mph and she settled to lowest position rather bumpy il say, ouch!

last year same problem but one of the air bags had split, so duely replaced both rears, so yesterday thought well perhaps front had given up, luckily the EAS had trip the cause a sticky vavle, so having browsed the web just before i typed this i came across this:

Good news!
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING THIS IF YOU THINK YOU ARE HAVING STICKY VALVE PROBLEMS AND WISH TO CHECK!(computer will log fault if you do this with the battery connected)
The solenoid is held on with 2 screws, (replacement solenoids ARE available), next you have a metal post protruding from a plastic block, 2 flat head screws and 2 posidrive screws, firstly loosen the flat headed screws a LITTLE to allow the air out then remove completely, this allows you to take the valve off in total, next undo the posidrive screws and this allows you access to the insides of the valve. The valves on my car were very dirty, with an alumininum like greasy dust on them, with the help of a little carb cleaner spray and cloth; they were all cleaned and refitted one by one, ensuring I put Loctite on the FLAT headed screws before refitting.

Next job was a trip to a local 4X4 garage (many thanks to Ian at Land Rover Servicing - The 4x4 Store - Northern Ireland, Newtownards, Northern Ireland for his help) to have the fault codes removed, once removed she worked well with no problems, apart from being slow due to the fact that I had cooked the compressor and it needed replacing!!

My advice to all is that if you have a fault like this, PULL OVER and DISCONNECT the COMPRESSOR BEFORE IT COOKS!! Don't always listen to the main dealer; all they want is your money! £1200+ at my main dealer, under £500 my way.

I havent seen this untill 5 mins prior to this reply, but will consider doing if someone can verify the effort in the above is worth or can be done.

did you check the relay timer under the driver seat ?
 
Hi - I haven't checked the relay under the seat. How is it "checked"?
Its been plugged into that Rovacom software and it all checked out fine. Since that date the car has been fine. I have however managed to snap one of the 3 thread that hold the compressor in place. The compressor has at some point been swapped and it vibrates so badly I had to do something with it. The compressor doesn't sit square on the theads which is why it needed attention.

You can get new mounts for the compressor, usual problem if it's vibrating is that the mounts have been overtightened, they need to be able to flex.

so my friend .. all you have to do is to test your pump .. the air must go in and out through the pump .. the pump must take off the air from the air reservoir under the right side to the chassis ...
so be sure that the air reservoir is getting empty ...
