Hi
The failed to initialise message usually occurs before the software actually starts. Hence the need for the add on. Corroded OBD2 sockets, com settings etc will not prevent the program starting but a missing add on will.

I use it with a USB to serial converter and the COM port number is different every time I turn the damn thing on. It needs setting in the program, but as it doesn't remember it anyway I suppose it doesn't matter that it's a different number each time.

if you plug the usb in then go into device manager and set the com port of the device manually it should keep it to that one!

I have to set the comm port each time I use the USB to serial adaptor
