EAS pump question...

My EAS pump has started running almost continuously. I know it could be a number of problems so I've decided not to speculate. I've booked it in with a specialist and it's due in tomorrow. Now what I'm worried about is the fact it's a 45min drive away, is the pump running for as long as that going to knock it out? Should I make a few rest stops along the way?

Hi,
probably not making air anymore down to worn out seal, why not disconnect blue pipe in EAS box (12mm) spanner and check it for yourself, easy to do, remove 3 8mm nuts and washers lift out pump undo 12mm brass nut that connects into base of pump start vehicle then put your finger over the pump air outlet and check for pressure, if good you should not be able to stop air coming out, have a read in the how to section, wammers has done a full description on what to look out for. You can rebuild your pump for around £20 and takes only 30 mins.
 
I probably should have posted a little earlier not the night before it's due in. Though it does sound relatively easy so may delay the mechanic. Thanks to both of you I'll consider the options.

PS this may help in answering what went wrong.... it started playing up after being lifted on a ramp it released all the air from o/s front shock. After being put back on the ground it took about 4 or 5 mins to reset at height. Since then the pump has been running around 80% of the time it's being driven.
 
Can't understand why lifting on a ramp would lead to loss of air, unless they lifted incorrectly and damaged something. Soapy water spray leak test the pipe joint at the air bag and valve block.
 
Yeah it seems weird. At first I thought pinched pipe but there's nothing near the jacking points. Literally as the wheels left the ground all the air leaked out from one. I'll give that a go shortly, cheers.
 
You are going to get screwed by the garage. Only 2 reason for th pump to run a lot, most likely a leak which will knacker the compressor or the compressor is just tired.
If the airbags are original, they WILL need replacing.

If it was lifted with the wheels hanging, the bags would have fully extended, the bags develop splits where they fold under which tend to open and reseal as the fold moves, extending the bags beyond normal probably led to a leak.
 
I reckon you've probably hit the nail on the head there then. Yes the wheels were hanging. Best to get all the bags replaced then?

If they have never been changed before they will certainly be shot by now. 7/8 years life usually. If you don't mind getting eyeballs full of dust and grazed knuckles, quite straightforward to change yourself. Lot of threads on it in here.
