Can anyone assist this first time p38 owner on how to test the pressure produced by my EAS compressor. Ie what tools and more importantly what is the procedure, tried to find it on her loads of advice about testing but none give advice on how it's done. I have read wammers "how to" but want to test to see how much psi it's producing as this may be reason for soft fault.
Help please

Stick a gauge on it you should get 175 PSI PDQ.[/QUOTE

Thanks, where do I put the gauge, what part of the block do I put it on, what kind of gauge, can I get it from halfords.
Thanks

You will have to connect it to the blue pipe from the compressor. But it will not be causing a soft fault. If you take the blue pipe off the compressor and put your finger over the outlet and it blows your finger off no matter how much pressure you put on it, air pressure is good enough. If you can stop it compressor needs refurb. There are no fault codes for compressor operation. It either gives enough air to charge the system or it doesn't. What is the recorded fault?

Got mine off Ebay, ready assembled complete with a shut off valve to isolate the air tank if required.
It has push pipe fittings and is a doddle to fit in the line from the valve block to the tank. (Looking from the front of the vehicle it is the first pipe coming out of the valve block, 6mm).
Depressurise the system, cut the pipe (make sure it is a clean square cut) and push the pipes into the fittings on the gauge with the isolation valve to the front. Make sure the valve is in the open position, start the vehicle and time how long it takes to refill the system. (7 to 10 minutes max). If it takes a lot longer, you have major leaks or the compressor is tired.
Compressor should cut out at approx 140 psi give or take a few psi.
You now have a way of monitoring the system pressure and isolating the tank for future work, e.g saves draining the tank if working on the valve block or Air Springs.
This is the link to where I got mine, you may be able to get one cheaper if you shop around.

Useful piece of kit but of course will not record the compressors max output pressure. Which i think the OP was asking for. :)

+1. Adding a gauge just makes 2 more possible leaks.

It is just showing EAS fault, all the lights on, been like that for days the car still sits level and is up little bit higher than standard height. When I turn on the ignition I can see the body move a little when it is adjusting itself. The only thing I can think of was over the last couple of weeks if sitting at lights or idle the car would try to raise itself up to off road height. It only happened on occasion. Prior to the fault I also tried to run it throughout the sequence lowering it then lifting it, at the time I remember it did feel sluggish coming back up.
Thanks

Can't wait for my cable from datatek hopefully it will show me something to work with!!

Wait for the cable and read the faults. Start from that. Lets us know what you find.

Spoke to soon, went out this morning offside rear is sitting on the bump stops. I already suspected this by the way it was adjusting but from sitting in the driver seat it was difficult to tell whether the front was dropping our back coming up.
Your revised thoughts.

(can we pause on quoting posts on this thread as the Quote Tags are getting messed)

If you need to quote a post to put your reply in context - can you reference the post #number pls...

We had this a few months back and the constant quoteing got it all bent out of shape....:D:D:D:D

The rear always rises first. Wait for the cable see what you have.

Sorry guys. New to forum, thought that if I
as replying to someone in particular I quoted their last input so that people knew who I was specifically replying too.
We live and learn. Although still not sure.
If there are a few replies to a particular question do I just quote that person's name if I want to respond to there particular reply.
May as well get this right early on cos if I am on here to ask for help I don't want the thread full of "your doing it wrongs"
Thanks

Switched car on and left door open to allow pressure to build up. Compressor not working closed door, still not working should I jump it to see if it is working. Secondly if a corner is down does that mean the bag is goosed.
Thanks

All you do to reply to a specific post is just press the quote button at bottom R/H corner of that post. Use the post reply for a general comment on the thread. If you are unsure what you are doing. Wait till you get the cable and clear any faults. Leak or malfunction on that corner. Could be bag, pipes, solenoid valve, sensor.

You were quoting correctly.....but at some point a Quote Tag (the [ or the ] ) got misplaced (not necessarily by you) and as such each time a quote was quoted, the tag position was incorrect (again not your fault) so it kept quoting the wrong person and quote....

Not your fault and you are doing fine, just sometimes if a quote tag gets deleted or dropped, it can quote oddly is all...

Keep it up, you are doing good!

The compressor will not run if there is a hard fault.

Can't wait to get your cable and software, this is driving me nuts. After rear offside sitting on bump stops this morning, started it a few times, no change, compressor not working, started it this afternoon. Up it comes, still registering EAS fault went shopping about 16 miles car behaved impeccably, sitting in drive for last few hours everything good. Aaaaargh!!!!! Maybe one day I will understand it as you do.
