P38A EAS compressor

P38 4,6 HSE 1997
I am trying to service my compressor.
Stripped down the pump bit and changed O ring and cleaned everything up following Wammers guide.
My problem is that I can't get the brass retainer off the piston.
I have cut away what was left of the seal and am trying to force a screwdriver between the aluminium piston and the brass ring and twisting it. No luck all I am doing is chipping bits off the aluminium.
What am I doing wrong?
I am working on the outside edge of the piston, should I be trying the inner ring?

go steady! I broke the flipping head off mine a while back! Snapped in two. You could try gently heating it..gently, very gently! I had to source a second hand resealed piston

Use a Stanley knife. Just keep going round and round in the gap and it will slowly cut bits out you never know were there and then when you've got the balde in a bit you can keep going but twist slightly (best wear googles or similar in case the blade snaps.)

Eventually it'll come loose enough to come out. I've seen some guide that advise using glue so if someone has done that you're in trouble and it might be an idea to soak in water overnight. Guess you could try heating it as a last resort.

I was trying a knife and a screwdriver but no luck. Watched RSW video is very good. Tried heating it but didn't work so wil try soaking it overnight and see what happens ta
