Looking to get back into a Range Rover after previously having a 54 reg 4.4V8 and was wondering what would be considered the safer, more logical option in terms of reliability and usability; late model L322 4.4TDV8 or an early L494 Range Rover Sport 3.0 SDV6? I looked at late model Discovery 4's as well but I have near enough talked myself out of that one!

Budget is up to around £27-30k, but obviously if the better option is cheaper then all the better!

Cheers guys

The V6 breaks cranks, the V8 eats turbo's. Hobsons choice.

For that sort of budget, my money would be going in a L494.

As much as I love the 322, the design is best part of 17 years old.....even the 494's are 7 years old now...

Why not the L405. They're selling 5yr old vehicles in that price range. A bit of haggling will either buy a 5yr old ( veh) for less money, or a if you're really good might bring a good 4yr old one into play.

That has been mentioned and after looking I have seen a few 2014/15 models with the SDV8 engine within budget....

The choices get even more difficult, I think I like the Range Rover because it's a full fat version, and the 4.4 seemed to be a safer bet than the 3.0 in the Sport, although the newer car is quicker and more economical, but a L405 seems to be the best of both worlds...

Sorry beg you pardon, got confused... I meant the L405 not the L494 RRS......wouldn't touch an RRS.
Full Fat L405 all the way for me... :D
