Hi All
any sensible suggestions ? Similar experiences?

2003 plate Freelander 1 - 1.8 petrol.

Starts, idles smoothly, revs rise smoothly with no missing, drives but lacks power!! Hills are a problem !! engine getting hotter than normal but not overheating.

I have replaced water temperature sensor, new plugs, new air filter, oil & oil filter, no visible leakage of coolant, heater works, no engine management light on dashboard?? Haven't been able to find an OBD reader that works yet (3 different ones tried) ?? Had a head gasket renewed 6 months ago. Any sensible suggestions?????

Is the radiator warm all over ? No cold spots ?

Any hoses that are unusually hard or soft when Squeezed ?

Coolant expansion tank cap OK ?

I would check compression first.
Does the heater get hot too? After the hg was done was the whole cooling system flushed out as it may have become blocked when the fluids mixed.

Hi
many thanks for your reply.
Yes the top hose from the radiator feels hard! As for the radiator being hot all over I'm not sure. I did replace the thermostat when the HG was done but not sure that the cooling system was flushed.
Coolant tank cap looks OK but is there a test that I can do?
Cheers

Cap filler, around the top of tank for petrol mainly, use to suffer from cracks so not retaining pressure properly. If the HG was replaced coolant channel maybe blocked if not flushed or the HG may not have been fitted in correctly. Is there any signs of oil or coolant spray near the block. Did you test the thermostat first was correct for the car and works in hot and cold water.

The fact that the engine is getting ‘warmer’ does not necessarily mean you have a fault on the coolant side. You could be simply driving it harder due to your lack of power.
Is it actually losing coolant? Not necessarily a puddle underneath, but does the header tank require topping up after a run?
