just been reading a thread in the 2.5na engines section, and it seems that dvla are wanting all sorts of proof of engine changes rac and garage reports before they wil update ther records, has anybody else come accross this problem? i have read recently that they are tightening up, but have'nt got around to send my v5 off to get engine status changed yet

Wrote them a letter saying I had changed the engine myself enclosing a copy of recite for replacement motor,it took a good few weeks but had a new v5 in the end.

I recently sent mine off I brought it with a 200di in it but vd said it had standard petroll I have no proof of who swapped it ets I just filled in the required boxes on the v5 hah

just got to an independent garage and ask them to write you a letter on headed paper stating the conversion thats been done is to the required standard. the garage near me will do one for a £10

Or as a lot of people do stay on the computer and open up Word, then type up and print a letter from a local mechanic. People make them up and just put their mobile number on it so if anyone ever calls up to check then they can say all the right things!
You don't have to be Alan Sugar to be a competent mechanic so your 'buisness' doesn't have to look amazing. :)

I had a mate trying to change the engine on the V5c, was told he needed proof where the engine had come from (he had owned the vehicle the engine came from!)
Was told he needed the garage that fitted it to provide a report (he fitted it himself)

He wrote the the chief exec of the DVLA and said how stupid his staff were being and had a reply by return with the new V5c and the number changed.
