Dull headlights

Hi people,
My Freelander1 has an advisory on new mot. My headlights lenses are faded.
So I was wondering what you would recommend putting on? Do I have to just replace them like for
Like or is there a better brighter headlamp I can upgrade.? I have issues with my hands so I would be buying
rather than rubbing down the ones I have. Thanks...

It's really not that hard to polish them by hand to be honest but alternatively, use a power polish fitment in a drill...piece of **** to do and far cheaper than replacing lights or bulbs (assuming you have a drill).

meguairs do a kit for this have a look at halfrauds

Just bought myself a polishing kit for the dremel, got a right hand attachment so easier to use , comes with 3 x inch Velcro pads as I also want to do my headlights

heard that brasso works well

Me too - get some help to do it - BIL asked me what to about his lenses on his CR-V - we (he*) used bicarbonate toothpaste to polish all the crud orft - and it worked a treat

I do mine before each MOT, using a Maguire's headlight restoration kit.

I've done the same on our (none LR) daily driver, wouldn't describe the result as a 'treat' but the process certainly improved the clarity of the lenses.
For just £1.00 you won't get better value for money.

- If you're not happy with the results so far, just keep going - that's what BIL did

Expect the dremel to burn out. I've tried all sorts of stuff from brasso, t cut, toothpaste and the proper stuff sold by Euro car parts. None of it worked that well and the hazing returned fairly quickly.

Buy the Autoglym kit 100% I used it on my Peugeot 307 headlights and it was fantastic.

Yes it's a bit spendy but I will guarantee the best thing out there for them when compared with others.

I dunno how bad your hands are - mine are bad enough for me to get rid of my guns - but I used Meguiars back in October before the MOT. It worked fine., 10 minutes a side.

The coating that’s applied over the polycarbonate headlamp during manufacture has now been removed, ( polished away ).
So the haze will return unfortunately, there’s nothing that can be do about it, other reapplying a protective coating similar to that used when the vehicle left the factory, and the best of luck with that.

2000 grit wet and dry, use it wet with some soap for lubrication, keep washing the paper in the water/soap. When its all nice and smooth it will look very dull , so , you then buff it up with either a cutting paste or TCut, brasso or similar.
Those restoration kits work but take all day!
Or, save yourself a lot of faff and bring it to a garage, they will have air tools/polishers that make short work of headlamp lenses.

have got air tools, polishers etc so will try, if all else fails will be replacing them with xenons
