hiya Adam and wills and Bob
well well well what an interesting day we have had.
We have just come back from stockport where I test drove a P reg DSE,
paint work was extremly immaculate and not even so much as a dent or anything, OH just a small scratch on offside rear wing, privacy glass, side steps. when i got in we tested the suspension first and like you guys advised me.. all the way down and all the way up and wow !! it was as smooth as a babys bottom and very fast as well, inside was very good, bit of wear on seats but thats expected for a car of that age. everything works but when we went to try the air con the little book came up, air con wasnt cold, display on dash wasnt all there (new bulbs needed)
took it for a drive, i had to give it a bit of gas to get it going, erm.. about 3,000 to 4,000 revs but i couldnt go very fast as most of the roads had bumps on them. it felt nice, There were certainly no problem with the drive. when I got back i asked to look under the bonnet. there was a new compressor fitted recently. we couldnt see any leaks or anything like that.
I asked if he could recharge the air con and sort the bulbs out on the dash and replace the tyres with new ones and I would sort him out financially as he said he would be able to do it on the cheap as he knew someone that would do it.
its got 130,000 on the clock. Is that ok to get one with that much ?

Thanks
Ted

Ted,

I wouldnt even worry about the mileage, just make sure you read ALL the service history and check what has been done and when.

Wills RR has done more miles than mine and his DSE is 100% fully working and nice example of a DSE.

My 4.0SE Petrol as I said, has done close to 150K and again still sweet as a nut. Again I have pages of service history.

What you want is a P38 that has been well loved and cared for just as much as you would. You dont want to buy one that someone has used to pull tractors and trailers every day and been through hell and back in its life.

ok I am now totaly gutted :(((( after talking to bob le and reading the threads on the little dreaded book, i telephoned the guy who was selling the car to ask him to thoroughly check the problem out before I part with my cash, his reply was theres nothing wrong with the car and who uses air con anyway !! I told him that i will not buy a RR with a fault to do with air con fault or what ever fault has brought the book up. :(( If anyone out there can find me a RR that works please save me from going insane :((

grrr Ted

The aircon is pricey to fix, thats why he isnt bothered fixing it!

I can see his point, why spend money on it when he's selling it? If you still want it, knock him down £600 so as to get it fixed properly at a LR garage or even cheaper at a independent LR garage.

Tell him those prices are based on £85 / hour and parts. Thats a fact.

Who buys a limo 4x4 without all major creature comforts fully working? Thats why they were 50-70K when new!

yup your so right Adam and he wasnt that friendly when i spoke to him and would rather not talk to him again. The search goes on, its like being on a roller coaster looking for a RR *sighs*

What he wants is someone to buy his RR "bought as seen" and has no idea of what he or she is looking at.

Thankfully your all clued up.

That old lady 4.0SE petrol sounds the best one so far......not that I'm trying to persuade you to buy it! ....he he he....LPG anyone?

I am such a git!

well TBH the best one so far is the one at sandbeck. engine purred and there wasnt any faults at all, just the bodywork was a bit naff and the interior was not good but engine and electricals were perfect.
Its not over untill the go lightly starts singing ;)

Ted,

Well the Sandbeck one sounded great as you actually got a warranty aswell. As I said, why not ask him to sort out the paint job bits and pieces. Remember you could source new seats and carpets etc maybe even a new console its a bit naff from a breakers.

Also if the console is a bit plastic looking, buy the burr walnut upgrades on eBay.

But knock him down in price or ask him to do it for you as a sweetner to seal the deal....

yup I have been thinking the same thing, I was saying to my lass that there aint no point in having those lovely seats if ya have to sit forward and spend the whole journey changing gear. I am defo not gonna buy a manual RR

Ted

The differences between a luxury automatic gearbox and bog standard car automatic gearbox are huge.

If you had the chance to drive a Ferrari with a full sports auto gearbox you will find that its actually faster at changing gear than you and changes at the right time.

When you cough up your hard earned dosh for a luxury vehicle, you want all creature comforts. And Automatic gearbox surely is a must?

I mean, who drives a Bentley or Rolls Royce with a manual? In fact I doubt they even COME with that option!

Also, there is a SPORTS mode which keeps it is gear longer to keep the revs up.....and your fuel aswell!

hiya Adam and gang :) i got some news....yippeeeee ! guess what guys ?
yup thats right, I / we found a very nice RR 90,000 on the clock BUT its got a new engine thats only done 2000 miles. paintwork is fantastic not one bit of rust anywhere. wait for the best bit tho..... its got coil spring conversion so i wont have to worry bout compressors or airbags.
lovely inside and its got a cd multichanger. but this is the bit that might suprise ya.. well ya know i had opted for the DSE? well....
its the HSE 4.6 Autobiography :D :D :D :D

Is that a good one ?
it had better be as ive just given him a £200 deposit.
Only thing it needs is a new bulb where the aircon lcd display is and a new button for the sunroof which he is going to do for me . Oh and it needs a new backlight cover. he even said he was going to wash it and make it nice for us.
so at last im gonna be up there with the big boys :D its even got a crash bar and side steps:D we should all meet up and have a range rover rally:D :D :D

regards
happy as a pig in S*i*e

Teddy

Teddy,

I thought you'd gone very quiet! Too quiet in fact!

You got a HSE 4.6 Autobiography? What a git! I want one!

I knew you wouldnt get a diesel once you test drove a petrol! and who'd thought you get a HSE 4.6 Autobiography! WOW!

Very sexy!

Post some pics! and I also expect you to use a pic as your avatar from now on!

Welcome to the Range Rover Owners Club! Happy driving!

There ya go Adam :D will post more pics when i get it :D
just spoke to bob le, I forgot to mention that it needs a new bulb in the LCD display where the dreaded book comes up, bob recons it may not be the bulb, could be sommat else but i wouldnt have thought its a serious problem, maybe a fuse or sommat but it dont matter as the guy will put it right :D its come from a auto garage, hes had range rovers for donkeys, and hes got a test book computer:D he wont charge LR dealer prices, infact I know he wont charge anything :D whats the diff between the 4.6 HSE and the 4.6 HSE autobiography ?:p

regards Ted
