DSE autobox oil temp

As most of you allready no ive had some mega issues with my rangie with blowing an engine, then that being faulty etc etc then the gearbox goin and the turbo giving up... now ive ****ed the g/box cooler up so i replaced it with 1 from a bently continental GT (W12 engine) from work and its working but this is only till pay day then i can get a genuine 1 etc, does any 1 no the operating temp of the gearbox oil on an auto box as i went for a decent run then took the temp of the cooler with a temp gun and its saying 104 degres C, is this too high or is it normal.

Do you mean centigrade? Because what you're quoting is about 220 fahrenheit and at 225 fahrenheit ATF is totally u/s. Even without a cooler I wouldn't expect your box to get anywhere near that, the cooler is for heavy towing or driving across the Sahara!!!

Erm... my gun reads degres C and degres F and im sure it was set on degres C but the kids had been playing with it

But its back on c when i just checked it... how can i find out at what temp the oil should be when driving?? thanks for the reply.

and the cooler i fitted is alot smaller but its from a 12 cylinder (W12) new bently engine that puts out over 550 bhp so id of thort that it would do just for the time being, i have noticed that its holding gears a tad longer than normal after 15 mins driving slightly nippy etc but that could just be low oil as it was hot when i did it so i couldnt dip the oil level in the box.
