They didnt offer when I spoke to them. Didnt think to ask. A claim has now been submitted with Land rover. Will wait for some clarification from the garage its in and then see what we should do.Maybe your LR one would even pick it up for you ?

I think the hope you have is that they realise it is a generic fault and start a recall.Yeh I think this must be defective. They will surely know about this. Landrover have messaged to say they are liaising with the garage who are raising a claim on our behalf. Lets see what they say and if they take responsibility. Can live in eternal hope I guess I mean what other option do i have.
Have been repeatedly asking for this information last two days. Was assured would get it yesterday, then again today. Still nothing. LR have opened up a case but waiting on LR garage to provide the information. Meanwhile we have no car and beyond frustrated. All very strange.
The "DS" (Discovery Sport?) was running fine then one morning it simply would not start.
No diagnostic messages at all.
The dealer spends say 8 hours (= £600) doing what exactly?
Apparently based on zero information, JLR tech support say "new transmission".
How did they come to that logical decision, based on what symptoms, diagnostics, and with what specific fault indication?
Surely that information needs assessing (and probably challenging) before assuming that it is correct and trying to get JLR or the dealer to pay it...?
Apparently needs a new transmission
Thought they were taking the p***
LR garage its in said this is unheard of.
I am trying to get an email from the garage with the information. So far its been telephone calls despite requesting they send me the full details.
Thank you. Lets see what tomorrow brings! Losing my patience. I mean I still dont actually know what is wrong with the car other than “it needs a new transmission” and starting to wonder if they do!!Apparently is a good choice of words - if the "garage" won't tell you what is wrong, How about a subject access request for a copy of ALL the cars records ?
I have a strong impression that they are - but you might be one of a few folk currently experiencing the problem, and LR might be somewhat aware that it could be a very expensive recall..
Kind of supports what I said above..
IMHO, Ask them 3 times in writing .. and then do the SAR..

Yes I do have this. I may have to look into it. Good call thanks.Do you have LEI with your car insurance ? Might be worth a phone call
That is a very valid comment. The mystery to me with this one is how something so major can show no error messages - that is why it would be good to know what the local techs found out (for £600..!!) and passed to JLR support in order to get a "swap the transmission" instruction.I've been following this thread from the outset & really feel for the OP, but the story further convinces me that today's automotive products are crap.
Following LZ & other forums for a number of years now I constantly read of the cost of new vehicle ownership that is far in excess of anything I have ever paid for my older LR products & other manuf. This really should not be happening as surely the whole point of buying a new/nearly new vehicle is to guarantee reliability & freedom from excessive repair costs.
Ah, in the good old days you would trace the smoke.....and/or burning smell. I thought the whole point with modern cars is that the diagnostics would spot anything and everything. Anyway, lets see what info surfaces on this one - exactly what did the techs tell JLR...? "It won't start" "OK, try changing the transmission and see if that fixes it"...i'm quite sure its something physical like a dodgy mechanical switch or associated wire/connection.. they will never show as a fault so its not possible for a modern tech/fitter to diagnose
said switch, i suppose, could be inside the transmission and not easily replaceable, or indeed sold as a separate part that JLR can supply

Waited 3 days for this £7123.16 for new transmission but still no real explanation.Or a failing battery
Yep thats basically it. Apparently found fault PO936-64 and they therefore came to conclusion it needs new transmission.Ah, in the good old days you would trace the smoke.....and/or burning smell.
