Dropped my new Power Steering Pump!

Hi,

Bit of a strange question but...

I recently bought a new Power Steering Pump for my TD5 Defender, but, this morning when the dog was excited for her morning walk, it was accidentally knocked from the top of my house stairs to the bottom!

The stairs are carpetted but it did take quite a tumble. My question is, how robust are these pumps? I can't see any visible damage or hear any rattling inside. The mechanism seems to turn as it did before. As you can imagine, i'm reluctant to spend another £150 on a new pump, but i'll also be *****d if i fit it and it doesn't work!

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

Either fit it and it works or use it as an ornament and never know.

I reckon it will be fine, I dropped mine from a 2m shelf into a concrete floor (it was in a cardboard box) and it is fine.

Fit it and find out, they ain't that fragile

I suspect its a damn sight more robust than that given the terrain and environment it is intended to work in.....? I would fit it and not worry meself. A

same part as fitted to all Rover L series engines, and (to my knowledge) T series engines. Only fault's I've ever heard are of a weeping gasket - which is amazingly easy to fix.

Very little to go wrong with them, and unless you've physically damaged it (cracked housing/etc) then it'll be fine
