I had the drop arm on my disco box changed to a defender drop arm at a local land rover garage so i didnt have to deal with removing it but it seems to be installed in the wrong place.
It turns all the way to the right until it hits off one of the chassis bracket but doesnt go past center while turning left.

I dont have a 34mm socket, ill see if i can borrow one of work tomorow but been as its just been put on, i take it it should come off quite easily with a hammer now?

Not on the vehicle at the time, but had a disco drop arm installed.

Bit of a poor picture but this is where it stops.

Hi There,

Just to double check , have you read the rave manual about doing steering alignment. Including aligning the drop arm.

hopefully if it has to come off then it should be easy........fingers crossed.

Cheers

Looking at it again, it cant be put on the wrong way can it? Without the arm being completely off.

When its in the center the center hole on the back does line up.

Could there be something wrong with the box that makes it work fine to the right but not to the left?

It worked fine in the disco it came out of, but that was around a year ago now.

I think there are master splines in the arm and on the output of the box, think theres 2 master splines 180 degrees apart so possibly would go on 180 degrees out but is obviously not this

lhd and rhd drop arms differ youget a similar thing if you fit a lhd one on a rhd box,you can see by holding 2 different arms next to each other the master spline sits at a different angle

Hmm, both arm and box where rhd, unless i was sent the wrong arm (checked my ebay history and orderd rhd)

Hi,

with the pin / hole aligned which way does the drop arm point towards driver or passenger side? Although I cannot see it causing anywhere near this much of an issue.

Cheers

Would have to go check, but everything lined up fine straight ahead (steering wheel, tyres and pin/hole)

It feels like a solid stop as you try to move it left from center, perfect from center to full lock right.
Could i have messed something up on the steering shaft? I cant see how.

How about you disconnect the UJ's on the steering column, check, then reconnect and disconnect the drop arm at the end and see how it turns.

Once you have done that , you will know where the issue lies.

Cheers

Thats the plan as soon as im back from work tomorow :D

Taken the steering uj off, and drop arm is disconnected so its just the box,
The drop arm stops in the center (with the pin hole lined up) but cant go any further to the left.
Right seems like it could carry on going past where it hits off the panhard rod bracket bolt.
Confused

Photo?

Cheers

Picture of it to the right and in the center where it stops, just off to pick up a 34mm socket to see if i can get it off.

I dont see how it could be on wrong though with the master splines, the garage said they put it on the same place the disco one was on

My lock to lock is just under 3 turns (hitting the steering stops either way) so i am assuming the box i have is the quick ratio version?
