Mine keeps coming loose, new arm too but I did reuse the locking washer last time as didn't have a spare.
So, 3 bolt box, new, bend it to lock, washer , just need the torque for the big nut holding the arm to the box splined shaft.
Ta.

3 bolt box, sorry aint got that specific info.

But the '83 to 95 MY workshop manual states 176 Nm 130 ft lbs.

It's 85 so that should be fine.
The arm 'rocks' on the spline when it comes loose, new drop arm has been tightened twice but still comes loose so going back to basics, new lock washer, new nut and correct torque and see what happens..

id give it extra with a decent length bar,some do have a habit of coming loose those i tighten further

Did my 4 bolt recently, with the Gwyn lewis drop arm conversion, as advised, I tightened to 176 Nm and left lock washer , took for a 10 mile drive ( stopped and checked no risk of undoing itself a few times) and then gave the nut one final tweak . Then I folded over the lock washer.

Last time I did it I was laying on my back holding the 3/4" socket and 18" breaker bar on the nut whilst the Doris swung on a 6' scaffold pole, still come loose but she is a bit weedy lol!
The old washer was hammered flat but obviously not ideal so I'm thinking that wouldn't help.
Good call on leaving the washer and rechecking later, think I'll do that.
Just finished getting the nose of the landy over the pit and having a cuppa before I start. Wouldn't have bothered getting it over the pit as it's a bit of a faff for a quick job but it's chucking it down here.

SIlly question time, but is it the original drop arm? if not are you sure it is the correct one, as I understood the 6 bolt and 4 bolts had different tapers ( may be wrong, I never investigated too deep on it. ) Not sure on the status of the 3 bolt steering box.

Well...it's gone wrong already.
New washer way to small, same OD as the boss of the drop arm so there's nowt to bend up. Nowt I can do about that now cos the Indy is closed.
I gave them the part number from the factory parts book so unsure if it's the books fault or the Indy's.

more annoyingly, my expensive high range teng torque wrench that someone borrowed is jammed up, can't alter the settings. It was on 180 nm though and clicked when tightening but didn't feel right. I turned it another 180 easy enough with my breaker bar and a short pipe.
Got to do a 90mile round trip tomorrow so I'll take the tools with me to regularly check it until I can sort it Monday.
I've also noticed when checking for drop arm play that the splined shaft moves up and down slightly, 1-2mm,
Checks done with engine off and the Doris working the steering wheel.
 
Sorry if teaching to suck eggs but you are bending the lock washer Downwards to
Lock against the nut, the again on The reverse side upwards to lock onto the drop arm?

Yes, but there is nowt to bend up towards the droparm, not even 1 mm, the washer is practically the same outside diameter as the droparm.
I took a pic but it came out rubbish and the landy is now outside, off the pit.
