Hi

I hope you can help

We have a lot of snow forecast in Oxfordshire tomorrow and I have an essential journey which I cannot avoid. I have not driven in snow in it before. I was wondering whether you had any tips for me? I have a 4.6 V8 Discovery automatic on LPG

Any advice appreciated

mate all you need to do is drive like you have eggs on bonnet and remember that you have over two tonne of steel to stop. The car will flash like a disco excuse pun if you try to play.Take it steady and let disco slow down not use brakes. they are very sure footed until u try and stop them. To be fair it's the other idiots you need to be worried about.

Tape a raw egg to the throttle pedal and 6" nails to the brake pedal.

Very gentle throttle and no brakes - use the engine and gearbox. You'll soon settle into it and then you can have a giggle at the BMWs spinning round in circles.

when it comes to starting off you want to be gentile as possible so try and accelerate as slowly.
if you had a manual and you were spinning id recommend you start of in second if this makes it any clearer. traction is the key.

Not sure if this is applicable to you but i was going to add it anay way and then found it on another forum :)

MODE SWITCH
In High range press the mode switch to select
’Sport’ mode (the ’S’ information light on the
instrument panel will illuminate).
In Low range press the mode switch to select
’Manual’ mode (the ’M’ manual information
light will illuminate).
Press the switch a second time to return the
gearbox to normal operation.
’Sport’ mode
With ’Sport’ mode selected, the gearbox is
more responsive to accelerator pedal
movement - downshifts occur earlier and
upshifts are delayed to make optimum use of
the engine’s power while accelerating. Select
’Sport’ when increased acceleration is
required, or when negotiating long inclines or
twisting roads. Note that driving in ’Sport’
mode will increase fuel consumption.
’Manual’ mode
In Low range, with ’Manual’ mode selected,
the automatic transmission functions as a
manual gearbox requiring the driver to move
the selector lever manually to change gear
(’D’ = 4th gear). Manual mode will provide
maximum vehicle control and engine braking -ideal
for use in severe off-road conditions.
Note that ’kick-down’ is disabled and that
automatic downshifts will only occur to
prevent the engine from stalling.
NOTE: Switching off the engine or using the
transfer gearbox will automatically cancel
’Sport’ or ’Manual’ mode.

Very Good info, as i know my dad uses his M mode in his 4.0 disco 2 quite a lot :D
