drivers electric window

hi all, ive been having problems with my window with it keep falling down. i was advised on this forum on how to get the door panel off, done this and the window is still in its channels but there is a banana shaped object with teeth which has come off something?????? can anyone tell me what this is and is it fatal??????

It sounds like the window regulator, the cog is half moon shape and normally is atttched to the window motor to raise and lower the window.

yeah thats the one i think, took the door panel and the cog was just lying in the bottom of the door, are they repairable or is it a costly replacement?

mine went on the passenger door a couple of weeks ago cost me £106 with fitting


but have heard rumours they can be welded

mine is wedged closed with a couple of blocks of wood inside the door at mo

Happened to me last week. I used a 4mm drill to drill through the "banana shaped thing with teeth", and the positions on the mechanism. Then bolted (and a pop rivet), and it's fine again. You may need to file off the heads of the bolts to stop them fouling the motor assembly. Takes 30 mins when you've got as far as you have.
I think the root cause of the failing on mine (2002, 92k miles) was that the whole mechanism was over-extending - the window was going further down than it should. I modified the "banana thing" by adding an extra stop so that the motor only wound down one tooth less than before. Seems fine now. Total cost £0, and an hour or two working it out...

it seems a very weak design. like other cars ive done too. usually possible to repair them with a little thought as above. ive done other cars in just the same way. you need to make sure that any new fixings will clear the window operation.

pop rivets are ideal for this. or use nuts/bolts then grind the heads down.


welding will cure things like a broken actuating arm.
